What finally got you off your bum to exercise?

Recommended Posts

Well my unfill has helped me stay low carb. I am feeling better, but still do not want to exercise. Found my Richard Simmons tapes, have a clear spot to move around in.... but...

1) I am too tired.

2) I am too lazy.

3) I have other things to do.

4) yada yada yada...

What finally got you moving?

Mine was some relationship trouble...meaning I don't have a relationship anymore. :welldone: I had/have a lot of anger to work off and it felt good to crank up the music and sweat. The hardest part is getting started...good luck!

Find something you love. If you can't get into your tapes, day after day, try taking a swim class or a yoga class, or going for a walk outside. Don't make it seem like work and it'll get better. For me, it was changing gyms. My old gym was dirty and I didn't realize it until a shiny new gym opened in my neighborhood and I realized how much the grime of the other place was really bothering me and keeping me from going. I pay a little more, but I actually look forward to going to the new place with it's fancy electronics, televisions on each piece of cardio equipment and spotless steam room that's cleaned 6 times a day.

Find something you live and next thing you know, you'll be feeling great.

I'm in the same situation poodles, but I'm taking steps to change it. I really don't like exercise, but I find when I spend money on it I'll do it. I spent about a year with a personal trainer (before banding) and loved it, but find I have a hard time keeping it up on my own.

Just recently the continuing education catalog for one of the local colleges came and they are offering several dance classes. I wanted to take the Adult Begining Tap class, but the first one is full so I switched to Begining Belly Dancing. I can't wait! Starting on Jan. 27, I will have 12 weeks of dance class that I know that I will want to practice when I get home, so for me it was just a matter of finding something that I REALLY want to do.

I'm going to see about taking the next session of Adult Tap, something I've always wanted to do as well, but it will be during the summer.

The beginning of the LapBand process, I've been exercising off and on ever since. It's nice to have access to a college rec. center to work out at for free.

Well, for me it is the fear of not losing like I should with the band if I don't add exercise. I have always used the excuse that my arthritis kept me from exercising.. And, believe me, it is painful, but in the long run, I know it will be worth it. You know that old catch 22--I need to exercise to help me lose weight so that my joints will feel better, but it really hurts when I exercise! And it still does, but I have just learned to block it out I guess. I do Water aerobics, which is awsome for people with arthritis, and I joined LAdie's Workout Express, which is like Curves--women only, and a 30 minute circuit that is actually fun and not too hard on the joints. And we all know that if we are exercising, we can have a little treat now and then and not have to pay for it so much.

;) Hi there,

For me the moment i started to exercise ( 5 km/ 3.5 mile fast walk every day ( most day,s ) ) and eat right was after initial consultations with the surgeon, the dietician , the physician and then after the second visit to the surgeon when he gave me the " Green light " for surgery. That was it , 5 weeks later i had lost about 25 Kg /55 lbs .

All before the surgery, since then (10 weeks ) i have lost another 10 kg / 22lbs

BUT i still have no change in my feeling full / Restriction.

I have had 2 fills only 3ml in a 13 ml band

I am still doing it very hard

But yes it is all worth it.

Mark:)

Knowiong that it would help my band journey made we want to exercise and it HAS!!

Use Dr Phils hint, take something away from yourself each day until you do your exercise (just 15 minutes to start). It can be TV or reading , talking to your favorite friend or his suggestion no exercise no makeup the next day. Yikes for some people.

I found something I love and that fit my lifestyle, that was able to grow with me and would always continue to challenge - running.

I can do it anytime, anywhere. I've just come back from holidays where I've run regularly through the bush. I can go early morning, late at night or any time in between. If its cold or hot I can do it on my treadmill. When I master a distance I can work on speed or adding more distance. I can motivate myself with fun runs and other events. I dont have to show up at a particular time at a particular place to do it. I can do it with my husband, with my boys on their bikes or my daughter in the jogger, or with all 4 of them. I can walk out my front door and do it or I can drive somewhere scenic or trendy and do it. All I need is shoes (and a bra, lol). Its the perfect sport for me.

I've never had any problem with motivation with the gym but I always run into big problems with time - class timetables never suit me, they never have the class I want to do, it takes too long to do the program and then I have to go home and shower before I can get on with my day, etc etc. Once I faced the fact that I would never be able to commit long term and found something I could do instead I've never looked back, never piked out or had a problem with motivation.

My biggest motivation to exercise is when the September bandsters started an exercise and weight loss challenge. I love to go on the computer and change the numbers everyday. I know this sounds lame but you really see then what you are doing(or not doing) during the week as far as exercise goes.

Ok, I did it. My 8 year old made me. He says, "lets dance before we go to school." So I go, ok. I set my alarm early, woke up and half asleep went to his room and asked him if he wanted to dance or wanted to sleep. He popped out of bed and said "lets dance!"

So we did a Richard Simmons tape before school. It was actually easier than I remember (30+ lbs ago). He made me promise to do it every day... so we will see how it goes.

Day one down, and my baby made me do it!!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
