I just had a 20oz gatorade a week postop in 30 min or so....why can you only have 4oz an hour?

You are fine! liquids slide in and out rather quickly. Your stomach is healing and if you weren't full on 4 ounces of liquids then your stomach is probably not as swollen as it was. Just don't drink so much so fast. Even though it slides through quickly you shouldn't stress your healing stomach. I doubt very seriously you have a leak. Leaks usually cause extreme pain and you know something is very wrong. Maybe you need something a little thicker for your meals like a smoothie made with yogurt. This might make you feel a little fuller. :)

If you had a leak you would know it!! You would spike a high fever and Benin excruciating pain.... No worries.

Not necessarily! Not saying the OP has a leak, but the symptoms aren't always this obvious at first.

@ JSCRIMPSHIRE thanks. I dont have any of those symptoms.

@ Beach Lover - if liquids slide in and out of quickly then why dont Soups and shakes do the same? I just had a decently thick Cream of chicken with a scoop of Protein powder. :/

@ Laura - He says 4 oz an hour, but aim to get 48+ oz of liquid a day. My fullness was REALLY high though when I was eating! Thats why Im worried! Im worried if that costco yogurt fucked something up for me. :/ I would tell my mom but I dont trust her, she will just nag at me and ****, and I wouldnt message my doctor through their health program on the internet because my mom has my password as well....

@LipstickLady - typically I dont eat myself to uncomfortableness. That was only yesterday. I normally feel full though, and Im really freaking out as you can see...I never figured the yogurt was so high in calories. Thank you for that.

@gmanbat - normally it WOULD scream at me. Same for liquids. It would tell me to stop. I would burp. I havent burped at ALL today...wtf??? I would burp a dozen or so times or more a day since postop. It WOULD scream at me, and thats why Im worried......

Guys Im j

Well the costco yogurt wasn't smart... :)

But it sounds like it went right through you!

If it where a solid food I would be more concerned about damage. You did not stretch your stomach. Don't look for full right now, you may "feel" it some days early out and you may not feel it others . MEASURE and eat only what you are supposed to. :)

Thin/clear liquids are mostly Water while full liquids have Protein, higher carbs, possible fat and other things that actually fill you up. Think about a strainer. If you poured apple juice through it, it would go through instantly. If you poured yogurt, a Protein Shake, or creamed Soup through it, it would take a little longer. Full liquids will back up a bit making you feel fuller than clear and pureed will make you fuller than full liquids, etc.

@ Laura - I just miss that full feeling. Its a security thing. I got this tool because I know that it would make me feel full and reduce my food limit, and now that its not doing that.......what? :|

I have always felt full and then costco happened and then Im not. I dont think its a coincidence? :/ Im really starting to freak out...

@Lipsticklady, so if I just had that Soup with the Protein powder in it, why am I not feeling so full?

Im also finding it hard to do a meal in 15-30min. Ive been doing 15minutes max. At worst, it would be like 7 min or so. Maybe thats why Im not so full too? But then again, that meal I just talked about lasted about 15min........

Relax. Follow the guidelines you were given by your doctor and NUT and call on Monday morning. I am sure you are fine. Does your surgeon offer classes or support groups? I think it's very important that you get some more guidance on your dietary needs and restrictions. This forum is a great place to learn, but every surgeon does things a bit differently and it's important that you follow YOUR doc's guidelines.

Yeah they have support groups, BUT its an hour and a half away from me, so its not feasible. I may be fine but I am still having a crisis on my fullness :/ Its like I was holding on to the concept I would know when I ate too much....but Im not feeling it.

Dont you feel its a LITTLE weird that I stopped burping and stopped feeling full? Burping was a sign for me to stop...

I think it's a coincidence yes, as the others ate saying that full feeling will come with time and moving on to the next phase..

You stomach is healing everyday so what did it for you yesterday may not do it today (when your on liquids)

Patience the restriction will come.

I promise :) you are only a week out its the hardest part....the first month. just know that you are babying your stomach so it can heal.

It's still a liquid so it's still going to flow, just not as quickly as gatorade. Instead of eating until you are full (it takes your brain 20 minutes to figure that out BTW), measure your foods to your NUT's requirements and only eat that amount. Use small utensils like baby spoons and cocktail forks and put that utensil down between every bite.

I was eating far too fast at first and throwing everything up. I now take a dime sized bite, chew it 20 times, take a lap around the living room (the house is an open floor plan so I am still with my family) and then sit down and have another bite. I get my steps in as well as slow down my eating.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
