13 days until surgery....I am on day 2 of my liquid pre-op diet and I am having mixed emotions. Don't get me wrong, I really want to do the surgery. I though that the pre-op was going to be easier....I really miss food, but I have a problem knowing when enough is enough....did anyone feel this way? Will I be able to make 'peace' with food in the future after surgery. I am grumpy and having a bad day...had to make the kids Mac and cheese for dinner.< /p>

It will get better. The first 3, 4 days are a little tough. I am on day 9, and find food to smell good, but not appealing. Hang in there. My surgery is 31 July. Good luck. You can do it!

I went through a depression after my surgery for 2 weeks just missing food in general. I wasn't really hungry. It was just head cravings. It has gotten a lot better now. I've lost 53 lb. since March and have 37 to go. Hang in there. These first few weeks are the hardest. It's worth it!

This caught my attention because not stopping/knowing when I was full was one of my problems in addition to how I used food for comfort... To follow is a bit from my account of the surgery experience (I was a Mexico sleever), I hope it gives you some hope. This particular moment was about 60 hours since surgery:

"I tried the Jello next. Two half spoon fulls later and I FELT the moment my new stomach was DONE. FULL. NO MORE. KNOCK IT OFF GIRL. I smiled and nearly cried. MIL asked what was up. Kids, for the first time in my life that I can remember, I realized I knew when I was full, that I was done and it was time to put the spoon down. Can I tell you how ELATED I was? It was at THAT moment it was all worth it. I slept peacefully that night."

Nearly six months post-op now and my relationship with food is transformed. At first you can't help but do anything other than think of food (how much Water, how much Protein, where in the day can I eat this or that, navigating social times, etc)... but that changes fast to become routine I think for the vast majority of us. You still track and weigh and be careful, but the tool won't be ignored. There's consequences to pay when you overdo it. So, between the mind and the physical, the power to transform can come if you follow your program.

I don't think I've made peace per se... but I'm getting there. Acceptance of what was, what is and embracing what can be has definitely taken over for me.

Hang in there. It DOES get better I think.

The pre-op was the worst part for me.

Seemed impossible.

Like cutting down cutting down the mightiest tree in the forest... with... a herring!

It is SOOOO worth it. I almost three months out and although the weighing, tracking and planning gets a little tiresome, food has a new meaning, infact, it is sorta a nuisance. It is so nice to have more control over this area of my life. Yes, I sometimes miss the fun of gorging but really, gorging was killing me. So glad I did this.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
