Do what you can. I went from walking (a lot) pre-op to now 6 weeks later still not being able to hit 1 mile at one time. If you can walk a little each day, do that. Start with a time/distance and gradually increase over time.

It has been frustrating for me to go from being very active to now closer to the sedentary side of exercise. But it gets better with each day. Try and see how much you can walk and set mini goals for yourself.

I just came home last night. I took 3 mini walks outside today....about 2 blocks from my house and then the 2 blocks back. It wasn't easy but I knew I had to do it. I also have a pool table in my finished basement so I walked around it about 10 times while eating a sugar free ice pop...seemed to go down very easily while upright and walking.

I was a week post op yesterday & I just did my big walk (up 6 houses & back) just walking my dog. I'm exhausted now too. :-( I hope it gets easier. I'm not driving yet either, therefore, my son is taking my husband's truck & my husband is taking my van to work so I have no wheels anyway but I'm not ready to go out in public either.

I feel hungry all day long too & if I just do something simple like this morning I made scrambled eggs & toast for my oldest son & after finishing, I had to sit down cause I was all dizzy & shakey. Wonder what all that is about??

Everyone is different. By day 5 I was walking 1.5 miles and by day 7 walking 3 miles most days. I wasn't going very fast in the beginning, but I did get the mileage in. I now can do almost 3.8 miles in an hour on the treadmill at the gym. Just started trying to jog for 2 minutes after 5 of walking. It will come, just do what you can!

Before I left the hospital they stressed to me the importance of walking and staying hydrated. Walking in side doesn't seem like I'm doing enough.

I know how that feels I was frustrated in the hospital having to stay still in the bed. Wanted to sit up so badly but the pain wouldn't let me at that point.

My opinion: walking is walking, inside or out. You may have walk around your house a dozen times but it is better than sitting

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
