Psyc evaluation freaking out

Recommended Posts

I go for a psych eval on the 29th of August, a little anxious just like you.....but there are good reasons behind this requirement.....afterall it is a super permanent change that we put our bodies through.....not to mention how life altering it is....good luck with everything!

I had a psych eval about a week ago. She basically asked how much I knew about the surgery, what I expect from it and how I plan to live after surgery. She didn't ask me anything overly personal. Just breathe. :)

I'm happy everyone psy eval went well. Mine didn't so much. The doctor was a

in-house psychiatrist. My instincts told me to be wary. He looked up my file in the system and questioned me about it after my interview and the 567 questionnaire. He was concern that I abruptly stopped going to therapy while deployed and when I got back. And I had an incident where I had to go to the ER and I had hydrocodone in my system that my PCP didn't prescribe. I actually forgot about that incident. One of the questions was Have You Ever Took Medicine That Wasn't Subscribe to You? I told him no. Now he thinks I'm a liar and will recommend I get counseling for 3 to 6 months before I get surgery. I just know he will I could see it in his eyes. I'm gooding at reading ppl. I been looking around for psychologists that specialize in WLS so I can get a second opinion. I hope the VA Center will accept a second opinion since everything is done in house. Sigh--- the past does come back to haunt you after all.

The psychologist said he thinks I'm good to go..I was expecting a straight yes or no but he just said that and my info is on the table and he's revived a few letters from my provider...not sure what to make of that but at least it sounds good lol. I have my endoscopy on the 13th >.<

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
