Psyc evaluation freaking out

Hi, my names Ashlie, I had my appointment Friday with a bariatric surgeon!!! It's finally happening EEP so stoked!!! I was just told not only do I have to see a psychiatrist I have to do a 165 t/f questionnaire!!! OMG I'm freaking out!!! I'm an over thinker! No one will tell me examples of questions asked.

The tests are different for every clinic. Don't worry, unless you are a real fruitcake, you will do fine. Really. They aren't looking for normal neuroses, they are trying to weed out really messed up folks who will fail after surgery.

Because the questions are different in every center in every state I had to take a 340 online question test that asked a lot of the same questions just in different ways to make sure I'm not suicidal, a alcoholic or a druggie. He asked about my past and who supports me what I know about the surgery and what the risks were. then a few papers with questions about eating habits. It's different for a lot of people. I did mine last month. My name is Ashlie as well :)

Thank y'all! I'm just trying not to psych myself out, I have bad anxiety and errr!!! Anyone I talk to says just be honest, be yourself but sometimes I'm to honest!!! I really want/need this, and I'm a total sap man!!! I balled during my appoint and I know I will with the psychiatrist. I just am scared ill over think and mess something up!

Meh, just answer them the way you think they want it to be answered. Like mentioned before, they'll ask 165 questions, but only about 15 true questions will be asked, all of the others will be different wordings of the same dumb question.

I like to pee on other people

I like to kick dogs

I like to hurt myself

etc etc.

Mine was no big deal. Questions like do you eat when your sad. It was no big deal

I had my psych eval on the 15th. It was the main thing I was worried about lol. I talked to her for about 30 - 45 minutes and was very comfortable and honest with her. She was really nice and put me at ease.

She told me at the end that she was pretty sure she wouldn't need to set up another appointment with me unless I wanted to see her again. She said I seemed stable, which was surprising lol.

I had 176 online questions. There was a lot of suicide, drinking and drug questions. A lot of stupid questions also. It was easy.

Just be honest and quit worrying. I passed, so there's hope for you too. LOL

I'm trying but that damn anxiety kicks in and I'm like EEP. But hearing its not bad from multiple people helps thank y'all!

I was super nervous. I didn't get to say everything I wanted and how I wanted but I think I'll still be cleared.

Just be honest. Say that you are anxious! They are trying to discover who might be emotionally unable to deal with the changes in your post-sleeve life. Remember this is forever; you can't get your stomach re-inserted.

Example, a lady who ate orange peels, and kept creating bezoars that required surgical interventions. Not a good sleeve candidate!

I had questions like, "Do you think some rules are meant to be broken?" The anti-establishment rebel in me thought, "sure, on some occasions". They interpreted that as me being likely to not follow the rules post-surgery. So I got flagged and had to do 2 more NUT visits and do a food long for that time as well. (At that point I was technically done with the NUT/log)

It may have pushed my surgery date out another month, but overall it wasn't that big of a deal. Just annoying. I'd suggest keeping in mind as you answer, that they want to know what you're thinking in relation to surgery... not just asking in general relating to everyday life.

I passed with flying colors :) I even had them laughing!!! Nutrition class 8.07 then they will give me my surgery date EEEEEEP!!! So exciting!

I go for a psych eval on the 29th of August, a little anxious just like you.....but there are good reasons behind this requirement.....afterall it is a super permanent change that we put our bodies through.....not to mention how life altering it is....good luck with everything!
