Hi all. I know we're supposed to take calcium citrate because it's better absorbed. Does it need to be a chewable/chewy or can we take capsules? I'm almost 3 weeks out. Thanks!

If you are able to tolerate pills get capsules. I prefer to stick to chewables myself and take the Celebrate brand.

My Dr told me chewable or sublingual (?sp). I did that for all of 5 weeks then switched to a pill I could swallow. My taste buds changed so much I haven't found any I like that are chewable or liquid.

Also, don't forget to take them at least 2 hours after your multi.

That applies if your multi has Iron, right? Mine doesn't and I take them at the same time.

My evening treat is two Bariatric Advantage calcium chews. They are caramel -- delish! I take Calcium and magnesium in the evenings because they help with sleep.< /p>

I take 3 Kirkland calcium citrate when I get up and before bed. The ideal plan is to take 2 three times per day, but my Dr. said it was OK to take 3 two times per day if we kept forgetting our lunchtime dose.

I was able to swallow them at two weeks out, which is when my plan said to resume taking them post-op.

First ingredient listed is "Calcium Carbonate" and no mention of calcium citrate anywhere else.

Exactly, I chose a multi without Iron intentionally so I can take them with my Calcium.. then I just take my iron right before bed. Makes being compliant with the Vitamins soooooo much easier when you can just take the Calcium and multi together!

As for the original question. My doc said I can take the tablet form of the calcium citrate with D3 two weeks post op. I take six tablets a day (three 2tablet doses) which equals 1200 Mg of calcium.. plus my Multivitamin has some calcium citrate in it as well. Just FYI I did a dissolve test on the calcium tablets to make sure they would dissolve well for those of us with reduced stomach acid.. The "citrical" and the puritiain's priide brand item# 33195 dissolved in plain Water in under six minutes so you know they're not going to just sit in your stomach undigested!

I also chose a multi without Iron. I do a separate iron. I bought the kirkland calcium citrate 500 mg today. I like the flavor of the Bariatric Advantage chews, but they work out to be so much more expensive. The kirkland were $11 for 500 tablets. I did the Water test and after less than a minute, the coating had dissolved and it was a pile of powder. Thanks for the help!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
