Negative self-image

Recommended Posts

So during my years of gaining weight and being obese, I developed a very negative self-image, which of course perpetuated and became a cycle, making me eat more and become more obese. I felt worthless, like I didn't deserve anything good to happen to me, no one should like me or want to be around me, or want to hire me. This is where, even 7 months after surgery and 120 lbs gone, the feelings of worthlessness and inability to believe that someone would see my worth are still here. I just graduated from school, passed all of my exams for certification and licensing, and am looking for a job in Respiratory Therapy. I had an interview in May which didn't result in a job, and I felt like I was treated very unprofessionally by HR (although I get the feeling it's normal in this day and age). I had another one yesterday which went really well I felt, but despite feeling like I SHOULD get the job, based on how the interview went, I can't shake the fear that I will never hear from them again. Logically, there is no reason to feel this way. Maybe it's a way to self-protect. I was wondering if anyone else feels or has felt this way. I see a therapist 2x per month and I will be bringing it up with her at my next session. Thanks for reading. I just had to get it out there. My husband doesn't understand.

Hey lady! I don't know how to help but I really hope you find your worth. You deserve it! 120 pounds lost is amazing! Open your mind to this wonderful new shot at life. Maybe look through the self help section of the bookstore. If your spiritual, The Power of Positive Thinking by Vincent Peale is a good one. Sometimes I need a little outside help to free my mind of negativity too.

You just finished school ....what a great accomplishment! I know how stressful and scary it is to start a new chapter in life but embrace it. Be proud and hopeful of the future. I'm thinking of you and sending positive vibes your way. Take care!

First of all, congrats on your weight loss success!! This is MAJOR. Unfortunately when the outside improves, the inside does not always jump on board at the same time. There are things in the past that cause pain & affect us in ways that seem to scar us, BUT over time, even these scars will heal. I want to suggest a few things. First, seek counseling just to talk out the issues....as an outlet. & if not counseling, journaling, praying, a good sound church, any of these are good. Secondly, write down a list of EVERYTHING positive about yourself & place it where you can see it daily & also meditate on these things until you begin to FULLY believe them. Forgive yourself also. Forgive yourself for any time that you have let down yourself or others. No one is perfect & we all have not so pretty things "in our closet". Let the past go & propel forward. Refuse to let the past control you. Take one day at a time. Walk with you head held high & with confidence even if you dont feel that way yet. Please inbox me anytime. I know what you are going through to an extent.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
