Suggestions for first day/week of solid foods?

Recommended Posts

I'm four weeks post-op and per my NUT's instructions I can start solid food! I'm starting with dinner tonight. thumbsup2.gif

My surgeon suggested sashimi, which I love, but I won't have access to it tonight.

I'll be near a Safeway and a Walgreens, any suggestions for my first solid food meal?? And in the next couple of days, what are some favorite things you've had success adding in?

Thanks,

Nina

I was able to eat everything and anything....just in much much smaller portions. I remember having chili, lentil Soup, cheese, and sliced ham in the beginning.

Today was my forst day as well. I had Greek yogurt for Breakfast, no sugar added applesauce for mid morning snack, cheese and thin lunch meat for lunch and Beans with cheese with a small amount of avocado for dinner. All measured of course to not go over my surgeon's limit for oz. I had to supplement with a 30g Protein Shake to hit my Protein. Tomorrow I will try a scrambled egg :) just go with things you like. I spent an hour in the grocery store deciding what to get based on how soft, protein and other nutrition content. I got enough for three weeks I think lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
