Going for first fill on Tuesday....

Recommended Posts

Hello,

How are you all doing? Happy New Years to all of you!!!

I'm finally going for my very first fill on Tues. Jan. 9th. I'm excited about it. I've been eating way too much during my solid phase. It's very hard to control myself. I'm really hoping that it will make a difference. I'm told that the first fill will not necessarily give you restriction right away. I understand that, but I'm thinking that it will make some kind of difference in my food choices.

How was the first fill for you all? Does it hurt? Do I stay on liquids for that day or longer? I've also been trying to practice the not drinking with meals, but that too is very hard to get under control.

How long does the first fill take? I'm told to plan on being there for 2 hours. I guess they hold a seminar too?

Okay, I'm done babbling on and on....

Take care and have a great weekend.

I'll be posting soon to let you all know how I did..

Ciao for now.

Doriana.

Doriana,

Doc will probably give you a numbing needle first. Then when they perform the fill you just feel pressure but no pain. Ask your doc but they may tell you to go on liquids for a day or so. I dont know why you would have to stay for 2 hours cause my doc fills me in about 5 minutes. Keep trying to wean yourself from drinking while eating. What I try to do is fill up on Water before my meals then you aren't so tempted to drink while you eat. Good luck to you.

Hi Doriana,

ummmmm....first of all....noooooo you will NOT get a numbing needle first (yeeeesh!!) and you do not need it so no worries. The actual fill itself will take less than 5 mins.

You will do GREAT.....it's no biggie (& this coming from someone who has had fill difficulties and has to now get fills via fluro - in fact my next one is 12 Jan).

Yoda,

Last night I was in so much pain with my stomach, I actually thought I slipped.....Oh God, I hope not... My hubby says it's the chocolate and my body is not used to the crap....LOL...

Does the TLBC do fills under fluro too?

What are you losing on an average now per week? I really hope my weight loss picks up. I'm so discouraged this morning... I keep losing and gaining the same 5 pounds.....:)

Thanks for your reply.

Doriana.

Hi Doriana. I have had 4 fills. I take the fills slow ,only .5 ccs at a time.I have the swedish band and have 5 ccs in now. My husband had his 3rd fill (same band) and he has 7.5 cc in. The first fill they put 5 ccs in . Make sure you take a bottle of Water as they will want you to be able to drink it without any problems. I had to have 2 defills same day so that put me at 3.5 ccs. No there is no freezing and it does not hurt. You are there for about 1o minutes.

Doriana, TLBC will do fills via fluro if there is a "problem" but they aren't done at the clinic itself....there are scheduled times at the Scarborough-Grace Hospital wherein Dr. Y or Dr J go to do the fills. (ie. at the X-ray department there).

Don't worry about the pain; your husband is likely correct in his diagnosis!!

I can't really answer the "what are you losing now on average per week" question. I haven't worked out since early Nov (due first to a bad head cold and then to a knee injury) and as a result of the not working out, I have gained several lbs (7 or 8) and am trying to get them off so that my ticker will no longer be a lie. I have to work hard for EVERY pound I lose and if I'm not working out that will not happen (all related to the PCOS).

But before that occurred...."on average" I was losing 1-2 lbs per week.....some weeks I would lose nothing for 2 or 3 weeks then drop 3 or 4 lbs the next week; other weeks I would lose 1 lb then 2 then nothing etc etc....it was never consistent. But that was okay, I was happy and the band was "working" if I was losing 1-2 lbs per week....AVERAGED OUT (ie. in 4 to 6 weeks). So be patient and keep with it and plus remember that your band isn't actually "working" the way it is supposed to anyways until you have proper restriction (not restriction itself but "proper" restriction). You'll get there!!!! Don't get discouraged!!!!

If you want to know more about how long you will be at TLBC for your fill and if there is a seminar (due to it being your first time) call and inquire!

:)

Hello,

Had my first fill yesterday. I went very smooth. Nothing to it......

I'm still on liquids for a few more hours, but I'm terrified to eat.

What should I start with in terms of solids??? Now, I feel lost...

Thanks to all your support.....

Whoooooo hoooooooooooooo....glad it went well Doriana!!! Way to go!!

If you are worried, eat some soft food first (ie. Beans or something)....you have to jump in eventually though! Small bites and chew till it seems like you've chewed forever!!

Did you "feel" anything when you stayed to drink your bottle of Water?

Hi Yoda,

I thought the Water was going down very slow, but it did go down... Thank God...

Thank you for your tip on the soft foods. You're right, I have to jump in and start eating sooner or later.....LOL...

Thanks again hon,

Doriana

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
