Not doing the liquid diet

Recommended Posts

Suck it up! If you can't do this chances are you are going to have trouble not only losing all the weight but keeping it off. Like others have said you risk getting tour licer knicked because you didn't shrink the liver, the surgeon simply closing you up and cancelling your operation for jon compliance (waking up without the procedure) or having the surgeon need to switch to an open surgery. Follow your instructions before and after or you are going to risk seriously hurting yourself

When you have your surgery, the doctors are going to slice and staple your stomach. If you have food pieces remaing in your stomach, they could get stapled into the lining and cause complications. It has happened before. Learned that last night at support group. Your doctor didn't put you on liquids just to lose weight. There are other reasons for the liquid diet. Here's my suggestion: call your surgeon, tell him/her what you are eating and then let your surgeon decide if he/she wants to go ahead with the surgery. Lying to your surgeon is dangerous.

My BMI is now 39.6 it was 42 the doc requirements was that I lose 5-10 lds like I said I lost 14. I did what they asked just not in the way they asked me to do it.

So many people here have successfully done their one or two week preop diet. without skirting it like you have. If you're looking for someone to tell you what you did is okay, i'm not that guy. Good lucking finding someone who is.

I'm pretty confused about the liquid pre op diet anyway. My paperwork just say liquids for the 24 hrs prior to surgery. But I was asked to lose 5-10 lbs while continuing my pre op appts.

Mine does not require the two weeks either. My surgery is next Wednesday. He said if I wanted to have one last "big" meal I should do it by yesterday then eat sensibly, avoid spicy food and the day before is liquids. I have been replacing meals with shakes here and there to taste some of the different brands but that is about it pre-surgery.

Every doc is different. Mine doesn't do the 2 week preop. Just the day before on Clear Liquids. I'm in going to be okay. I go August 9th for my surgery. My BMI is like 51.

And that is perfectly fine but the OP specifically said she was required to do a liquid diet.

Hey! You and I are having surgery on the same day!

You must not be on an endless binge if you are losing weight already. We all have food issues, if we didn't we wouldn't be doing the surgery.

Just remember the reason why Protein is so important is that when you have the surgery and are on minimal calories, your body is going to be looking for energy. It will either take it from the fat or from your muscle. You do not want to lose muscle, just the fat. Right ;)

The Protein isn't a punishment, it is part of the solution. The nutritionist gave me a really simple formula for success in eating: 15/10/5 -- 15 of protein minimum, no more than 10 carbs and no more than 5 fat per meal.

Keep trying your best and good luck! I look forward to going through this with you!

The liquid diet is more complex than the amount of weight it causes you to lose. It's to help shrink your liver immediately pre-op so that the surgeon doesn't have trouble visualizing your anatomy.

The 15/10/5 is a good idea, but does your RD include a snack too? Bc that would only be 45 g of protein/day, which isn't a lot. My RD recommends 20 g of protein per meal and if you have 1 snack, to make it something like a 10 g protein snack....

Today is the last day of my diet! I will have surgery tomorrow at 12 noon! The two week liquid diet was horrendous! This is my second timing being that I currently have the lapband! I did cheat a little but with nothing heavy! Please note that if your liver does not shrink enough your surgery could be postponed or switched to an open procedure! I am converting to the Sleeve. I am super excited!!! Good luck with your diet try to stay focused!!! I know it's hard!!!

Good catch!

She said to aim for 60-70 a day of Protein. That would include a snack if you were on the low end of the Protein at meals.

I am so shocked at that. Did you lose a certain amount of weight in the past couple weeks. I can't get over how different doctors can be. Are you having surgery at a Bariatric Center of Excellence? I am very curious. I almost want to keep track of everybody's answers. You don't have to answer- but I am interested. Does your surgeon specialize in bariatrics or does he do many abd. surgeries?

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
