First appointment with my surgeon tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

I'm really excited, but at the seminar he stated he required proof of previous diet attempts (6 months worth). This isn't an insurance requirement and nothing is actually going to be handled by my insurance since it's at a military treatment facility. While I don't have hard proof of my previous diets (like a WW printout), I have gathered up pictures of myself (What I could find, I don't like pictures) showing different weights, and wrote down the diets and other methods I've used, total weight lost and gained back and dates. I also was put on Phentermine by my PCP last October as my last ditch effort to lose the weight, and I just don't like the feeling that stuff gave me. I did give it a shot though! So my question is, has anyone's surgeon required the 6 month diet thing and was persuaded to cut or shorten the time? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also, a couple years back, I went through this process before up until right before the wheeled me back to be put under. My surgeon(different guy) didn't look at my labs, but anesthesiologist did and noticed my platelets were too low to have surgery. They cancelled on me, sent me home and I refused to go back. So I guess I'm just hoping he will cut me some slack on this diet thing.

My insurance also had me on a 6 month pre-operative journey, I guess you would call it! My doc just asked me what diets that I had tried and I just told him a bunch that I had tried before. He didn't ask for any other kind of proof! I think they just want to make sure that you are not just doing this for a cosmetic procedure, because it is meant to be a lifestyle change and not just to look pretty. I hope your doc isn't that picky about the diet thing!!

Sucks about your last journey..that would have really made me upset..hope all goes well for you..Tammy

Thank you! I'm a little relieved it didn't happen the first time, because it was for RNY and I really didn't want that surgery... but it was that or lapband. Things happen for a reason, here's my second chance I suppose :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
