Looking for some input and opinions here. I am thinking about joining one of the roller derby leagues in Denver. I love the idea of it and I think I'm "that kind of girl" but am feeling a little unsure. It has been a long time since I have "put myself out there" like that. I still have weird body image issues and think I am still too big to do it. Hubby disagrees and has been showing me pics of the other girls from their website and they are about the same size as me. Hubby is all for it and is very supportive.

What do you all think?

I think it's a way cool idea! One of my good friends from Phoenix is in her local roller derby league and she loves it. There are girls of every size on her team. Do it!!

Hey DrewsLou!, I just checked out the Denver Roller Dolls website. You know what? You will probably be on the 2008 Roller Dolls pin-up calendar! Whew! This may be my new favorite sports team!

WOW!! Thanks for the great response everyone!! It means a lot to me to have someplace like this to come and bounce ideas off of you all!

As for my name... I'm thinking "Sick Girl". I am a HUGE Social D fan and it comes from them. I am open to other suggestions though!

I sent an email to Denver Roller Dolls last night asking for more info for try-outs and to see what exactly they are looking for. I think try outs are 4 weeks from today. I plan on hitting the gym hard in those 4 weeks (I started back last night)

Thanks again!

LOL... I just had to explain the term "Sick Girl" on my other board. They thought the name sounded fragile and weak. Quite the contrary!

You go, girl. I wish I was your age and had the chance to join the derby. Those girls are some tough Cookies, though. My (late) DH used to belong to a derby team (long, long ago) called the Ft Worth Texans (I think). Sometimes he had to wear his uniform home after a tour because the burns would weep and it would stick to his skin. He had to sit in the bathtub and soak it off. But when I asked him if he had ever dated any of the female skaters, he said, "Hell no! They were all a lot tougher than I was!"

Oh my God, that's too cool. I'm surprised you even had doubts. My desire is to go paint-balling when I'm agile again. I know, I know, a middle aged woman running around in the bush........ but the kids look like they're having so much fun.

You've gotta post pics in your regalia when you get it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
