I have my psych tomorrow. From what I've been told, they are looking to make sure you can handle the changes. Do you have a plan? What changes are you making? etc. I know I was told by my psych that they would give me a test, and then I would come back to discuss this information with her. So it could be normal process.

I wish you the best. I have my surgery in 15 days!!!! I hope I can pass the psych test - some do think i'm crazy. lol.

If the psychologist is doing their job well, they're looking to identify ways to help you move beyond food, so to speak. It's very common to require more than one visit when the psychologist is "good". Many psychologist visits are simply a prerequisite and function mostly as a formality - and have no value for the patient. The psychologist should be identifying the role food has in your life, why you overeat/make poor choices, and suggesting things for you to start working on. I had a total of three visits, even through I was approved after the first one. I know of others in my program who had to have 6 - 8 or more visits before they could have their surgery. It all depends on the person, their situation, and personality.

Your question is one you should ask the psychologist. There's nothing wrong with asking what you should be getting out of the appointments. In fact, the psychologist should offer the information.

And don't be upset, and don't rush it. A good psychologist and productive visits will make your experience oh so much easier.

Most insurances require the psych thing.......I took two, my first one was to old after I had to do the 2 supervised diet as part of their requirements. My first one was a test of about 550 questions (You would have to be a crazy to answer yes to some of the questions, like do you feel someone out to get you or do you hear people talking to you when your alone, etc) after she graded to test I meet with her again and she told me that I could have my surgery.......the second I just answer a short survey of questions, talked to the Doctor for an hour and they he wrote my letter. I felt I got more out of second one. We talked about eveything from relationships to stress, my role in the family. I think the biggest thing they are trying to find out is if you have thought this though and you are not compulsive. Hope that helps.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
