On Christmas, I started my liquid diet because my surgery date was originally set for Jan 4, 2007. However, the insurance company didnt come through and still hadnt given us any word on approval or denial. My doctor decided to move my date to the Jan 18, 2007. So, the three days of my liquid diet was stopped. I called my insurance company last night. At first they tried telling me they didnt have any info on a lapband procedure. I was floored because I had previously been given a reference number. I i'gently prodded' the woman to look further. Apparently she mispelled my name. She found out that I was approved back on the 29th and a letter was sent out. If I had only waited ONE MORE day, perhaps I would be sitting in the hospital tomorrow, banded. Oh Well, I have my pre-appointment by Monday so I get to restart the liquid diet. Yay.

Im really excited because I know in just two more weeks, I will be banded and ready to get on with my life. I really hope that my sleep apnea goes away and my blood pressure is lowered once I have this procedure. I dont like going through life unhealthy.

Anyway, please wish me luck because I know first hand how hard the liquid diet really is!

Stephanie, my surgery is 1/18 too! I'm in Tulsa, OK. Not too far from you and we weigh about the same.

There is a group of us on a thread being banded in January so we can offer each other support and encouragement. Feel free to join us if you like. The link to the thread is at the bottom of my signature.

yay, about your surgery date. I can't believe we are getting banded the same day, and in the same state. Too bad its not the same doctor. lol.

I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I'm so excited to finally be on the road to the surgery!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
