Teachers Supporting Sleeved Teachers

Recommended Posts

I had a 12 day liquid Pre-op. The first couple days were rough' date=' but I took Tylenol to get through the headaches. Those were due to withdrawal from sugar, caffeine, etc. After the first couple days it wasn't too bad. I lost 10 pounds.

The preop is to shrink your liver so the surgeon has better access during surgery. It's not necessarily to lose weight, but I was glad I did because I gained 10 pounds from the IV fluids during my hospital stay.

I was very grateful to have gone through the sugar and caffeine withdrawals preop because it would have been awful to go through that in addition to the surgery recovery at the same time![/quote']

Thanks Wags! Everyone else I've talked to made it seem impossible! I have new strength! Lol

I am a high school librarian... 9-12... used to teach Reading Recovery to 1st graders... :) I was sleeved April 8 and in 3 months, I am down 45 lbs.... I am a very happy camper and have no issues... I did do it during my spring break too but took 2 weeks... one week off sick days... I am very glad I took 2 weeks... just because I was kinda dozing often while on the meds and sore and my clothes were hard to tolerate because of the way they did my stitices... staples... clothes were catching on my staples ... I think that was the worst.... I have no idea why they used staples but I was very very glad when they were removed... I recommend 2 weeks ... :) just from my own experience... and I love my sleeve and love the idea of educators group... :)

I was sleeved June 28th 2013 and am pleased to say I feel much better my pain is barely noticeable and I am up and moving way more!!! Congrats to those that have been sleeved and are in the process of losing and good luck to those in the process of getting approved!

Thank you for starting this topic. It is so nice to trade stories with others that are in the same line of work!

I am a school counselor at an elementary school in Texas. They only person from work I have told is my principal. She is very supportive so far.

I have my surgery scheduled for July 30th and I have to report back to work on August 14th. I am hoping to be well enough so it is not noticeable that I had surgery.

Best wishes to all!

I teach kindergarten in an urban school district in PA. I had my surgery on January 8, 2013. Tomorrow is six months and I am down 87 pounds from the beginning of my journey last May. I took two weeks off of work. That was enough IMO! Looking forward to hearing about other's journey here and give advice when I can.

I have a question for my fellow teachers. Looks like my surgery won't be till January. How many days did you guys miss work after surgery? Im trying to figure it out now so I can tell my boss when we go back to work. I teach preschool in NYC.

I had my surgery January 8, a Tuesday. I took off 9 days and lucked out that the Monday of the following week was Martin Luther King day. So, I went back to work two weeks to the day. I spent two nights in the hospital, due to nausea and low blood pressure. I didn't have any other complications. I could have gone back to work at about the week and a half mark. I was just really tired the first week and a half. Good luck and try to work the holiday if you have that off already!

I needed two weeks to get back in sync with everything. I got mine on the last day of school. I didn't plan it that way.

I have told no one and plan to keep it that way. I am a very private person and just feel more comfortable this way. I am of the opinion that you have to decide for yourself what to do. Once you tell, you can't take it back.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
