I think I may be the only one on here that has the balls to admit I am currently taking Phentermine after WLS. I was sleeved on August 31, 2012 and have lost 60lbs. I got very discouraged in my weight loss venture. I am human and give in to temptation just like most of us do. My weakness is Mr Pibb. I know it's a horrible thing and I'd lose way more if I'd stop drinking 2 sodas a day. Which is a huge improvement from about 2 -2 liters a day before surgery. I don't need anyone preaching to me what I already know.

I have a hard time drinking Water and yes I've put everything known to man in it to make it more desirable, but no luck. I can go 12 plus hours with out drinking a drop of anything. My Dr says I have water weight gain and has put me on the Phentermine to make me thirsty and to help with the water weight.

Phentermine isn't a quick fix and I still have lots of weight to lose, but it has helped me get over the depression I have felt for quite sometime about the weight not coming off. I lost 10lbs on it and I am way thirsty. He only prescribed it a month and I'm glad he did.

I have found that if I actually get out and walk around for a little while I start to notice more energy. I also have learned to pre-weigh and pre-pack my lunches and dinners for the week. This is a huge life changing journey and man what a roller coaster ride it has been.

I'm sure most of you are appalled about the phentermine after surgery, but some of us need that little extra boost to help us get through hard times. Especially when there is no support and a strong ear would be nice to have for thoughts and wonders.

So before you are quick to judge me, remember we are all human and no-one on this earth is perfect.

Nope, no judging... I assume it's diet Mr. Pibb??? Never used the drug though. Best of luck, pal!

I might judge you if you were using heroin after surgery, but otherwise . . . I don't know much about phentermine but it sounds like a valid medical tool that you and your doctor have found works for you. I think it's great that you are figuring out what isn't working for you in the standard post-op plan and have found a good solution in partnership with your doc. Kudos!

I don't think this is a bad idea, especially since (I assume) your MD knows about your surgical history. This med CAN be addictive (it's an amphetmine, after all), so it's good that he's only giving it to you for a month. If you see results/success using it, then it's definitely worthwhile to use!!!

Since we're not judging here, I'll tell you that I used Phentermine WITHOUT my surgeons knowledge to get me through the pre-op liquid diet phase. THAT is a bad choice, but I didn't want to ruin my surgery plan by telling him and I didn't want to cheat on my pre-op liquid diet.

I'm only 2 months out, so right now I feel like I'm on track. IF I get to a point where I'm not doing what I need to do and need that extra kick, I would consider using Phentermine again. I'm not proud of using it pre-op without telling anyone (I got the rx from a weight loss clinic in my area, so my PCP and surgeon didn't know I was using it), but it got me to where I need to be and I'm thankful for that!

I hope this helps you, and if you feel like you need to use it again, I encourage you to take a month or two off before restarting it, to avoid an addiction to it. People think "Oh it's a weight loss drug, it's fine.." but it's actually a pretty powerful stimulant and your body WILL start to rely on it if you take it for a prolonged amount of time.

I wish you the best of luck with it!! :)

ps - stop with the soda! :) i know, you know it's bad... but especially on Phentermine you DON'T need the extra caffeine. You'll give yourself palpitations! (IDK if Mr. Pibb has caffeine, tho... I was never a fan of that particular soda)

It's no wonder you aren't losing weight. You are actively drinking over ten teaspoons of sugar everyday...along with whatever other crap is in that soda.....and this is coming from someone who used to drink two 64oz Pepsi's a day. And I quit cold turkey because its sooo bad for you! Trust me, I was sick...headaches, chills, no energy...I felt awful for days.

It just seems like your doctor would have pursued other avenues (like a nutritionist to talk to you about how many empty calories your drinking). Prior to prescribing such an addictive medication to someone who already has issues with soda addiction, and who probably had a food addiction as well.....

I'm sorry that I'm not super supportive...I just hate to see the hard time you have had of it and you should know that you are able to do things you never thought you could do and you will be better in the end for it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
