3 days post op and still no poop!

Recommended Posts

Don't be surprised if even after you start eating regular foods that you don't go nearly as much as you did before, either. I used to be at least a once-a-day pooper and now I only go every three days. I asked my family practice doc about this and she said something to the effect of, "volume in...volume out" -- that it is volume driven and because I am eating so much less that it is not a surprise that I am going less often. I have not been constipated -- just going less often. I am getting used to it now, but it took a little getting used to not to be going at least daily.

It took me 9 days, called my nurse, they weren't too concerned either. Nature finally took its course.

Warm apple juice helps when things get backed up, also prune juice. I was told the warm apple juice is ok during the liquid phase, prune juice may not be as it is not clear. It needs to be 100% apple juice, unfiltered is better but not nessary. I'm almost 18 months out and still do the warm juice thing on occasion. ~Mandy

I was banded 3/4/11. Still no bm. Was starting to worry but I haven't been eating much of anything. Mostly liquids. Soups. I just figured there was nothing in there to come out. Going to add benefiber now and see if that helps. Thanks for the tips.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
