Sorry you had to experience all that! It's stories like yours that had me start researching the sleeve. Let us know how your revision goes...good luck to you!

Thank you. Just trying to make it through until surgery Friday. The band keeps slipping more and more and I'm so nausea and miserable.

Hi crystal. Like others I too considered the band. However rumor on the street is they might be stopping using this procedure as there are many complications. Lots of people a year or two out end up revising to rny or sleeve.

For me I didn't like the idea of a foreign object tied around my tummy. I didn't like that you would have to go in for fills. You had a permanent port. And the possibility of slips and having to redo the surgery to fix it or remove it. Have a high chance of the band rubbing away stomach tissue on the outside where the band sits. None of it sounded appealing to me.

As for rny I didn't like the idea of rerouting my intestines and purposely malnurishing myself. I know in a sense we r doing that with the sleeve but it didn't seem as drastic. With that said it's still a major and drastic surgery. Each has their own list of complications.

Best I can say is read a lot on her. There are a lot of great posts. And there is a lot of great info on the Internet!

I chose the lapband 3 1/2 yrs ago. Loved my band. I lost 104 lbs with it and was within 9 lbs of my goal. Then it slips. I have some of the Fluid taken out. I gain 20 lbs over a yr. Then 2 mths ago my band actually herniated and it had to totally unfilled. I've gained another 10 lbs. Now im 40 lbs from goal...

My revision is scheduled for July 16th. Im praying that all goes as planned and he can do it all at once. My insurance wont pay for a sleeve (my bmi is only 28) unless its done at the same time as the removal. Then its counted as a complication and is covered. I wont know if my band caused too much damage till I wake up in recovery...

The sleeve is a good choice. It wasn't offerred to me in 2009 and I didn't want bypass. I think the band was a fad, like PhenFen in the 90's. I need a permanent tool to keep my weight off. I've alrready proven I can't be trusted with it!

Good luck to u

Your story is similar to mine. I did get approval though for both but my insurance is changing on 7/1.

I also would not know until I was in recovery. Today I feel blessed! I woke with a sleeve... Yay :)

To the OP: Hang in there hon! Friday is not so long away now. Also, could you have your doc call in some anti nausea meds ?

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
