Not sure whats going on...

I was sleeved on May 13th and I have done great till this past week. It seems like I am fighting myself on what I know is right for me. I have ate things from a phase that I'm not on yet (my doctor has 6 phases and I am on 4). Tonight I went to Taco Bell and got a chicken quesadilla and ate 3 of the 4 triangles. I thought I was going to die bc it hurt so bad! I have wanted soda all week and I've been soda free since Feb. I don't understand why I am feeling or acting on these impulses. I have noticed that I am picking at things outside of my 3 meals a day. Today I felt like I was starving and nothing satisfied my hunger. I am feeling a bit down and afraid my surgery is going to be a fail bc I messed it up.

I worry when I read about other people eating to the point of pain.. Because its what I did and still have the tendency to want to do sometimes.

food addiction is a strong force getting the sleeve alone is not the answer.

I would ask you to please find a counselor that deals with addiction and binging issues.

I want you to know that there are a lot of people here that have had these same struggles but it can be beat and you can learn why you have these behaviors and work in changing them.

Be stronger than the food. You can do it! Maybe avoid those places until you have better control? *HUGS*

Shell, pain is a warning. I just read a post recently where someone mentioned a death bc the person ate a large amount and ruptured the stomach. Be careful. That scares me. I'm pre-op so I'm not much practical help, but I know that I eat and have cravings that have nothing to do with physical hunger. That's one thing we have to work through and find replacements for. This is kind of dorky, but ive been journaling. Im writing down replacement behaviors, coping strategies, non food pleasures, things like that.

I don't think any of this means you will fail. These must be struggles many go through. Your sleeve is obviously working bc it caused you pain. Just be careful bc there is a huge suture line and my understanding is that a leak or rupture is a worry not just immediately after. Hugs.

Try and find healthy alternatives to the food you are craving. Instead of chicken quesedilla (sp?) try the chicken tortilla Soup. There are always healthier alternatives to everything out there. Look under the nutrition forum on here and there are alot of recipes. They even have cookbooks for wls.

Hi ShellSheck,

I feel your struggle.... Honestly I agree.with with Laura-ven it is a great idea to find some professional help to process the emotions you are struggling with. Eating until you feel.pain is not good... BUT you already know that..... For sure you are learning your limits. Does that make you a failure? Of course not..... However, if you do that repeatedly then it becomes dangerous. I wish you well and hope you come through this struggle soon. :)

I also suggest reading Laura-Ven again. If you eat to pain, and do it again KNOWING what's going to happen, you may be dealing with issues that the 'sleeve' cannot help with. People CAN 'defeat' the Gastric Sleeve. Those who do should not be surprised at the result (which does not include the expected weight loss). Please, please please work on the head issues. I want you to win!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
