He had me fill our a paper with tons of questions. It said it was a personality assessment. He asked about my family.. My kids and husband. Asked about health problems, and brief family history. Why I want the surgery. It wasn't bad at all.

He just rambled off a bunch of diet programs an pills and if I had tried one I just said yes. That was it. Their job is basically to say yes, you are mentally stable and are having the surgery for the right reasons or no you're not. And from there they make a decision to clear you for surgery from a mental health stand point or say surgery isn't the right choice for you at this time.

Do you think they could decide to say no just because I have not tried a lot of diets? I've only tried about 6 diets well one was sensa and the other was a pill but I'm worried they may want me to keep trying

The psych usually wouldn't make that choice if you need to try more. Answer the questions honestly. They will want to know your reasons for getting the surgery are sound. Mine asked me to describe the surgery I was getting in detail including how long I will be on liquids after surgery and what the most I will Ever be able to eat is. Luckily I had done all my research

No, the psychologist shouldn't be the one to say no based on the diets you have tried. He is not a MD. They want to make sure you are mentally stable.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
