Trying to find out what all is involved in this typs of WLS. I am at a 46 BMI and I need to lose this weight some way. I have tried everything I know to do with no luck. I read things on WLS and it sounds scary to me.

I went to google and searched Lap Band Surgery and got all kinds of sites that have info here is one of the

http://www.lap-band.com/lapband/aboutlapband.do

I haven't had my surgery yet but will in February. Its a lot less invasive then the RNY (gastic bypass)

Here is a little quote from the site to give you an idea

The name “LAP-BAND” comes from the surgical technique used, laparoscopic, and the name of the implanted medical device,

gastric band

. The LAP-BAND® System is a silicone ring designed to be placed around the upper part of the stomach and filled with saline on its inner surface. This creates a new, smaller stomach pouch that can hold only a small amount of food, so the food storage area in the stomach is reduced. The band also controls the stoma (stomach outlet) between the new upper pouch and the lower part of the stomach. When the

stomach

is smaller, you feel full faster, while the food moves more slowly between your upper and lower stomach as it is digested. As a result, you

eat less

and

lose weight

.

Rachel, it is a big life change. Your portions really change. Sounds like you are not taking this lightly so that is good. The band can be with you for life. It is the best decision I ever made. I just wish I would have done it years ago. Best of luck.

Welcome to LBT Rachel

Lapband has worked for me and I don't regret it...I was petrified leading up to the surgery and after that I wasn't going to survive with all the eating considerations/rules. but I take one day at a time and slowly I am getting down. Best wishes on your decision making if you decide that it is right for you (even if you decide it is not right for that matter) there is plenty of ongoing support to be found here. I look forward to hearing of your decision and personal weightloss journey.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
