3 days post op with swollen stomach and gained 8 pounds

Recommended Posts

Aloha

I just returned today from Mexico. I was sleeved on July 14th. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Lumban and Dr. Alejandres at Hospital Nova in Tijuana. I've been on my feet all day (and sitting) waiting at the airport for my flight (about 4 hours to wait). NOw I am home and my stomach is all swollen. My doctor did wrap my stomach when I left for support. But by the time I got off the airplane back in Utah my stomach is sooo swollen and I've gained 8 pounds since my surgery date.

Anyone else experience something like this?

I would say not...my stomach looked like frankenbelly for about a week or two it was so swollen.

And I didn't bother even stepping on a scale for about that long also because I knew I was up from fluids and swelling from the trauma.

For me swelling took about a month to go down. I gained 10lbs from the fluids they pumped into me.

Yes, do wait at least 2 weeks to get an initial scale weigh at home after surgery, maybe 3 weeks. My weight was up 17 after surgery from a reservoir of IV fluids. It took about 2.5 weeks until back at pre surgery day of surgery weight.

Phew! I gained about 6lb after the surgery. Yes, I am still swollen @6dpo.

Frankenbelly is right. Ferel like the scene from Alien! AND plane rides help you retain Water too. AND those hospital IVs fill you FULL of liquid. Follow the program and ignore the scale for a couple weeks.

It is not a problem and is just a side effect of having the surgery. It should smooth out in 2-3 weeks.

No swelling for me... I guess both with and without can be normal, because at 7 weeks today I'm doing fine. Good luck with it all.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
