Day two of liquid diet and surprise, it is going far better than I could have imagined, no cravings for food, no hunger. the optimist shakes and bars are fully filling and satisfying, the Soups are awful! I would rather skip those than eat them. Thank good ness I only got a few of those. My only accommodations are coffee in the morning with nutrasweet and low cal Creamer and a lettuce 'salad' late in the day with no dressing. tomorrow may be harder since i do not work and have no schedule to keep me busy--but I do have a dentist appointment.

six days from now I will be on my way to the hospital.

I actually don't mind the Soups much, I just can't handle the bars. Tried both flavors the first day and had to choke them both down. Decided I would just stick with the shakes and soups instead. Even though my surgeon wants us on Optifast only for two weeks, I will admit a I caved and had a small salad earlier today (was just really craving some crunchy veggies - I guess I missed chewing lol). I figure it's not so bad, since I made it through almost a week and a half with no slips and I still have 5 more days of liquids before my procedure.

I'm also starting to get my overnight bag ready - what are you all bringing? So far I have loose pjs, a few basic toiletries, some fresh wipes, some liquid Gas-X, and a couple of magazines. Any other ideas?

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to check in and see how you're all doing?? I can't believe it's the day after tomorrow. Are all of you ready?

In my hospital bag I've got a change of loose clothes for going home, a few basic toiletries, Gas-X thin strips, a pack of fresh wipes, and a couple of magazines. What are all of you bringing? :)

It still doesn't feel real yet! I haven't packed anything. I bought a pair of loose p.j bottoms for the hospital. I figure ill buy gas-x thin strips, basic toiletries and I'm planning on bringing my iPad and ear phones!'i figure I'm on a wear a skirt, and tank top there, I'll just wear that home since ill only be wearing it or an hour! If I don't hear from you before Monday, good luck and i'll look for you on the other side of being sleeved!

How's everyone doing??

I just got home from the hospital a few hours ago. Surgery went well and the only post-op issues I encountered were gas pain (which I'm still trying to work out) and pain from my drain (which was thankfully removed this morning). So slow going but happy to be home. I'm sipping Water slowly and trying not to take in any more air (I've never wanted to burp so badly in my life lol). Not hungry at all and hoping it stays that way ;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
