What's your calorie intake?

Recommended Posts

I am just under 3 weeks out and so nervous about calorie consumption! I seem to have good capacity to tolerate quantities and could see how I could eat high calorie counts. On liquids, I have 2 Protein shakes, Soup twice, and two Greek yogurts, and sometimes pudding so around 800-900 calories on just the liquids! Once I am back on solids, what will my calorie intake be? What should it be to lose weight?

What stage are you (I.e. how long since sleeved) and what is you calorie intake?

3 months and I'm at 1050 calories... Actually, when I went to solids I wanted to eat less. A nice piece of meat has few calories and makes you really full..When I was on purees I felt like I could eat a LOT more.

I'm also nervous about this since I don't seem to have any issues getting or keeping liquids down.

I am doing 2 shakes a day w Water in between but I'm convinced I could do a 3rd. I'm scared to gain. Doesn't that just sound f**king nuts?

And I love Protein. All forms of it. chicken steak tuna fish-

Good question- looking forward to the responses.

I'm almost 6 weeks out and my sleeve is on the tight side so I get about 600 calories a day. My doctor wants me to get in at least 800 but more like 1000 to help keep my energy up. Moving to soft foods is definitely harder because the bulk if the Protein fills you up much faster then the liquids. At 600 cals a day, I feel like poop. So my advice would be to keep tracking and swap out a shake or two for your soft foods and keep cals around 800-1000. Hopefully you will feel fantastic AND keep losing weight! Good luck to you!!

My surgery was January 11. i currently eat between 1,000-1,200 calories.

This was a HUGE concern for me once I was sleeved. food is much more dense and you will fill up quicker.i can eat about a 1/2 cup to 3/4 c of food and I am done. Liquids are usually around 10-16 ozs.

Hope this helps.

I did 400-600 calories a day for the first 3 months. In my 4th month I always aimed for 600, but usually landed around 800. At 5.5 months out now, I shoot for 1000 a day and it seems to be working the best for me.

Thanks everyone! Love hearing the cal counts and reassurance. I don't meet with the NUT for another week and a half so I will also ask about calorie recommendations. She's a pretty awful NUT though so its frustrating but she's a package deal with my doctor.

I'm 3 weeks out and having a hard time getting enough Protein and fluids in. I get about 55 grams of protein and about 55 oz of Fluid, and I feel like crap most of the time too. The program coordinator recommended that I go back to 3 shakes a day (ugh) and I do feel better with more protein. This is a challenging surgery, and it has been much harder than I expected.

I am 4 weeks out and consuming 6-800 calories a day. 63-78g/protein and 80oz/water per day. Milk and lean meats, Usually 1/2-1 Protein Shake, if needed.

5.5 Months out and I get about 800 calories (+/- 150) each day.

The denser the food, the smaller the volume for me.

I eat mostly Soups, chilis and stews - whatever is soft, easy to prepare and store.

I'm 2 weeks and 1 day out and I'm getting 600-800 calories/day - just transitioned to soft foods yesterday. I want to get to 1000-1200/day so I have the energy to start working out with my personal trainer again.

Personally I didn't count calories while I was on liquids because it is more important at that stage to be getting enough Protein and liquid then anything else till your stomach heals. Since starting on solids I have stayed at roughly 900 calories a day, keeping the priority on the Proteins to keep energy levels up. I do let it flux sometimes by 100 calories either way because it is better to change it up once in a while to try to limit stalls. Good Luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
