Difficulty loosing weight???

Recommended Posts

I appreciate everyone's feedback so much. I can honestly say I was not making much effort to loose weight. I really thought that 90% of the time chosing the right food, and much smaller portions would be all I needed. I was wrong. I guess if my matabolism and geans were that good I wouldn't have been all that overweight to begin with.

I have gone to Curves twice and started NutriSystem. We will see. I won't give up and I am glad I have band...

My doc says if you don't eat some type of Protein every 3-4 hours your body goes into "starvation" mode and starts holding onto the fat since it doesn't know when it's next meal is. So he says eat five meals a day every 3-4 hours. He also says to have 75% of your diet be protein and 25% from carbs you get from fruits and vegetables. So far this has worked great for me. For example at one meal it would be 3 ounces of proteim with 1 ounce of veg/fruit. Does this sound like anyone else's doctor's advice?

This is my first everything, message, band, time into this site, open discussion on banding- as i said - first for everything.

this one has me thinking and i wanted to ask. i have a back problem that started when i was 14 - i fell - i have just recently found bouncing to be helpfull. it is low impact, and the back actually lets me stand it for the 5 minutes three times a day. it helps with metabolism, energy, and flushing the system. - i know what it means to say - it hurts to excersise, for me it sometimes has meant hospital because everything has spasmed to the point of cutting of feeling and control of legs. -- any way - my question is that i would like confirmation that i'm not making a large mistake. My thinking has been this - i do the pre-op yogurt and isageniz diet - 2 weeks - surgery is scheduled for Jan 25/07. 5 weeks post-op and then research and experimentation time begins. - this is where the "tool" was supose to make it's big contribution - i am hoping it will do the larger postion of the work for the first 30 - 40 lbs - then i can begin to do more walking (the back doesn't like that for long either) - unfortunatly swimming is not a real option as i have a 'not nice' reaction to chlorine. i was really hoping not to have to join a gym. this procedure is touching the limits of my finances as it is. again, i was hoping that the band would take the lead and i could follow it for a while and when i had lost some - i could take charge. -i'm bablling - sorry.

Hello all. I was banded on Dec 29th and I am discouraged with so little weight loss. I am drinking and eating as I should and all of my eatingis just Protein, I can relate to what you are going through, I go to the dietician tomorrow and hope that she will sway me in the right direction. I have been walking in the house only, I am still a little sore, had a hernia fixed also. And the weather lately is crappy, but I am going to start using my tread mill tomorrow . Each day is one more behind me. Thx for listening. Donna in NH

I started NutriSystem and like the food being a no-brainer. I still have not lost an ounce.... I went to the Dr. and found out that I have a thyriod condition and PCOS. I will start taking my medication tomorrow. I even went on 4 Protein Shakes a day for 5 days and still no loss....Urrrrr!! I won't give up. We will see.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
