Surgery day--what to take with me?

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is coming up 6/26/13

Im curious as to what I should take with me...

What should I pack in my overnight bag?

I know I need Gas X strips and my cellphone/charger...

What about toiletries?

What should I wear? A comfy summer dress? or just yoga pant and t shirt?

I would love some feedback!

Thanks

I wore tshirt and stretchy pants. I put underwear and pants on when I came out of surgery to feel better. I took Chapstick because I hate having dry lips. Took my favorite blanket because the "towels" they call blankets in our area hospitals are ridiculous. Took my bed pillow too. Took toothpaste/toothbrush so I could brush teeth (rinse mouth) since so many complained of dry mouth.

The best thing I took??? Lol.... Ear plugs to not wake up when someone walked in my room! :) I got lots of sleep thanks to those little suckers. I took baby wipes and deodorant too. I couldn't take a bath... But when it's your TOM, it's nice to clean up!! :)

Along with phone/charger... Everything fit nicely in my little bag.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

I wore a big comfy tee shirt and pj bottoms. I wore the same thing home. You won't need much as you probably wont feel like doing make up and hair.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
