personal question, surgery in 2 days!

Recommended Posts

does everybody recommend taking laxatives to get more "regular" before checking into the hospital? or do they give an enema after getting there?

since being on a pre-op diet the last week, i need help in this department, ahem... if you get my drift. and it seems that post-op it takes awhile as well.

If you are constipated then I would try and use a stool softner or laxative to get rid of extra stool prior to surgery. You need to be comfortable and Constipation creates increased discomfort to you belly, back and sometimes chest. You will want to go into surgery not constipated as the change in your diet post op can create either more constipation or possibly diarrhea. Some patients it doesnt touch at all. Good luck with your issue.

I too suffer from this problem. I seem to be fine right now. I just discovered a fleet supository. I can't believe I've never used it before. WOrks great! Especially right now, that I have the gas pain!

6 days since surgery and down 12 lbs already. Starvation I would think..lol

Thanks everybody for your pre-op advice!

I guess I worried about Constipation for no reason. Actually the same happened to me too threebeauties --- it took about 4 days to not have the "liquid in, liquid out" issue! Thank goodness that's over!

Back to the regularly scheduled program...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
