I am not good at receiving compliments!

Recommended Posts

I do not like the attention at all. I feel uncomfortable and am not sure what to say to people when they are giving a nice compliment. I don't want to feel like that so I'm wondering if anyone had some input on how to receive these kind of things differently?? Awkward:/

It's hard! The first thing I always do is negate it by pointing out something negative about myself or making a joke..

But I am trying! I find if you just force yourself to say "thank you" It's over with pretty fast and painless :)

I hear you...the best, quickest way to deal is to smile and graciously say "thank you" (I know, that sounds crazy hard)...hopefully you will be able to start actually BELIEVING the compliments you receive, but telling the person all the reasons why you don't think you deserve said compliment just prolongs the spotlight you are trying to avoid.

Just say :"thank you" it's short, to the point, and let's the other person feel acknowledged. You can ponder on what they said later.

Yep, thank you requires no further dialogue. Then a quick change of subject!

I am uncomfortable too, when the ladies at my office compliment me on my weight loss. But I thank them and then ask them to please not oogle my Buns as I walk away.

I just smile and say Thank you very much.. my works have been so great with me.. I get the new skinny tag too.. I love them all so much.. they are always full of questions too... but Im ok with telling them everything.. including how much wt ive lost.. I work on the cardiac/cancer unit of the hospital.. so we are all pretty close up there on the floor.. so I share with them... they are big supporters of mine.. Im not use the all the compliments.. but I take them graciously and say thanks...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
