A few silly things I have been thinking about

Recommended Posts

Ok so I am hoping that by February I will be getting my band, I have done tons of research but there are a few things I have been thinking about.

1. When you get skinny can you see your port?

2. Does the port get uncomfortable when wearing jeans that may be snug?

3. Can I still eat Ice. I am a big ice chomper and go through several lbs a day now, will I still beable to eat it after being banded?

I think thats it for now, I am sure I'll have more questions later

In my case you can see the port because I had a very thin abdominal wall so it's not hidden by much fat or tissue. My port is very close to the breast bone so my bra digs into it all day. Very annoying, but not enough to regret anything. I think its great that you eat ice. You get plenty of Water in that way. I can't imagine there being anything wrong with continuing after surgery. Anyway, that's all they let you have after your surgery for that first day. Good luck and keep asking questions.

1. My port is actually LESS visible as I lose weight. I think it's because the fat behind it is disappearing. If you wear underwire bras, you might want to ask your surgeon not to locate the port in the center where your bra hits. It does get uncomfy at times. My port has tilted, and I wonder if that's why!

2. I think I answered that in number 1.........I always try to be ahead of the game! LOL

3. I would say eating ice would be good because you're not gulping water.....just getting a slow intake. I have heard that craving ice sometimes indicates a Vitamin or Iron deficiency. Might want to ask about that.

4. Here's an answer to a question you didn't ask. It takes some people FOREVER to actually fell restriction. I've had 3 fills and just now am feeling a tad bit restriction! I am NOT patient. I had surgery on Aug. 24, and I've only lost around 35 pounds. I will have my 4th fill after Christmas, and hopefully that'll be the charm!!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Thanks both of you for your answers. Ok so the port is higher then I thought. I have been reading about restriction taking some time getting. I am also impatient but I guess if I am seeing weightloss and not gain I will be happy. I have heard that crazving ice is because of an Iron defency(sp) which I am anemic (better start taking my iron huh?)

Becka,

Talk to your surgeon about a low-profile port. It costs a little bit extra, but it may be an option that may decrease the visibility of the port as you lose and once you've lost the weight.

My port is about 3 inches below the mid section of my cleavage base. Ity is lower than where my bra hits, and several inches above my belly button.

Becka,

Talk to your surgeon about a low-profile port. It costs a little bit extra, but it may be an option that may decrease the visibility of the port as you lose and once you've lost the weight.

I received the low profile port after getting the regular one at first. I asked him to move it upwards because it was in my waist band area and the pants were bothering me. Now the low profile port is above my waistband and still sticking out like crazy. He said I have no choice because of how thin I am. What ever that means... If he knew it was going to stick out because of my weight loss then he could have suggested some place else, don't you think?

My port is about 3 inches to the right of midline...about halfway between my waistline and bra line...doesn't get in the way of anything.

The only time it bothers me is when I lean over the bathtub to clean it. It is much easier to find now that I have lost 75 lbs. But its still not readily visible.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
