Ok maybe I'm just being impatient but I just want to compare pain post surgery. I'm 6 days out and the large incision still hurts quite a bit. It feels like I've been hit in the stomach with a baseball bat. Is that normal. It's not a constant pain it only hurts if I'm walking standing or trying to stand or trying to sit. It just feels like the whole area is bruised. I haven't taken pain meds since Monday due to my own personal demons and some family demons with pain medication. I'm almost sure that's why I feel so much pain but I'm just trying to see if its normal. If that can even really be answered.

Yep. Normal. My pain didn't start to subside until halfway through the second week. It helped to have an abdominal binder. If the hospital didn't give you one, def get one.

Try the OTC (over the counter) meds, there are liquid pain meds that could help you with pain and discomfort, if you prefer to stay away from prescription meds. I haven't had the procedure yet. I have allergies to so many pain meds. I will rely on the OTC. Contact your doc to find out most effective types. A heating pad helps too.

I was also in so much pain on the main incision that shot through my back like a fire poker!! I could only walk for a few minutes before I would be doubled over in pain. Last night I was tossing & turning in my sleep and felt a big POP near my incision. Now today I am 100% pain free!! Hopefully you will be pain free soon!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
