Port Replacement/relocation surgery yesterday

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I had my port relocation surgery yesterday and I am doing great. The area is pretty sore but I am on some good drugs so I am feeling pretty good. My port was actually replaced so now there should be no problem with my surgeon finding it when i go in for fills!! :clap2:

Thankfully, my husband is a wonderful man who has already come home from work three times today (he works nearby thankfully!) to check on me and to check I am taking my medication at the right time!! (This stuff can make you a bit vague and forgetful!!).

Thanks everyone who sent me messages of support. I am now just excited that with this problem fixed, and the apparent healing of my dilated pouch, I can start to lose weight again and buy more (smaller) clothes!!!!

The surgery was a breeze!!! Thanks again for all your wonderfully supportive thoughts.

Suzie

I 6 wks post op and thinking about asking my surgeon to relocate my port because its so close to my breast bone that my bra leans on it all day and really bothers me. Can you tell me about the surgery and how it compared to the band surgery itself. Thanks

The port relocation surgery was much much less painful than the original banding surgery. I was not under a general anaesthetic, just conscious sedation with a local. The area was quite sore for about 3 days and then significantly less painful and after about 10 days, no pain at all, even with my doctor check up yesterday where the area was pushed in very hard. It was a breeze compared to the banding surgery, which I remember I was in a lot more pain.

Sounds like they put your port way high up. I have never heard of that. My port was sitting just below my waist and was moved slightly higher because it was annoying me when I wore fitted waist/hip pants. I am only 3 weeks from having it replaced and it already is way less annoying than how it was for the last 3 years. No regrets at all!! (apart from the cost, but that is beside the point!!)

Good luck

Suzie

I see that I am not the only one that feels my port in not in a good spot. I thought the Dr was going to put the port low on the left like opposite the appendix area on the right. My port is right under my left ribs, and I have a hard time bending when putting on shoes and with the waist of my jeans. Seeing Dr tomorrow for a possible fill. Also feel like the band is irritating my side around to my back, but I have been sick the last couple of weeks with a bad cough. Stomach is still sore from all the coughing. Banded 12/7/06. ANy suggestions:cry

Hi Rybujade, I am so happy for you that you are doing well, but PLEASE tell where was your port before and where it is now, and describe the differences. Rileen Irwin

Suzie, are you self pay? Do you have any idea how much it costs to get a new port? I think my port might have a slow leak and I am wondering how much it would cost me to get a new one? Thanks!

Brandy

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
