Just been referred for the surgery!

I've finally made the decision to have a Lap Band and I seriously cannot wait. Like everyone here I need to lose over 100lbs and really feel that now is the time to do something serious. Unfortunately in the UK I have to pay for it myself but what's £8000 compared to regaining my health??

I'm planning have the surgery mid February (probably end up being Valentine's Day as my surgeon only performs Lap Banding on a Wednesday) and will be lurking on these boards from now on.

I look forward to beginning this journey with you all!

Wow you've lost 72lbs since June!! It obviously works! I just can't wait to get going. Now the decision has been made I'm getting really impatient. I'm still really nervous; especially about the vomiting. I keep picturing myself throwing up over my desk at work and everyone thinking I'm pregnant!!lol!!

Louise, I'm in the same boat. I will also be banded mid Feb, Valentines day to be exact. I am so excited and cannot wait! I have found this site to be the absolute best. Everybody is great about answering questions and the support is unbelievable. Now I can't imagine being without the people here!! I have learned so much and feel that I am ready. I am also self paying, 16,000 dollars to be exact (Canadian dollars). But I can't think of a happier way to spend my money! I would like to lose exactly 100lbs. Welcome and I hope we can share more.

Hi Becca,

As I'm a private patient I will probably be able to choose my surgery date. February 14th is ideal for me because it means I will be around to look after my youngest daughter during her half term holiday so it looks like we will be banded on the same day! I'd like to lose 148lbs to get back to how I was in my early 20's but I will be healthy 28lbs above that.

These boards are so great. Every other WLS board I've looked at all seem to be populated with people that have had the full gastric bypass; something I would never consider.

I look forward to keeping in touch with you over the coming months. Feel free to email me directly if you'd like!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
