getting sick of water

Recommended Posts

I was well aware that your tastes change post op and for some everything tastes sweeter. . Well I am part of that some...I have to plug my nose to drink my Protein Drinks. But i am having trouble with clear liquid varieties. I have tried it all: different flavored crystal lights, mio flavoring, dasani flavoring, flavored water, Isopure Protein Water (never again), diet iced teas, zero calorie Vitamin water and gatorade etc. Everything tastes too sweet to me and I even tried watering down everything. ..anyone with this problem have any suggestions about what else to try?...I'm frankly getting sick of plain water. Also when does this period of eeverything tasting so sweet end? I am told it is temporary.

I've had the same problem, including applesauce and jell-o and some other things. I never liked plain water but find myself drinking at least 64 oz. a day. Also been eating dill pickles this has also helped me with the Vitamins. I have not been able to get that protein in but plan on doing so when able to eat. I am currently going 2 weeks post-op sleeved may 22.

I was sleeved on the 23rd and I too get over a gallon in. I like plain Water but wish I had variety. I am getting the Vitamins and Protein in...you are allowed to have pickles already?

Try Water with slices or chunks of fruit. Just don't eat the fruit. It will give it just enough flavor, but not the sweetness. Water with pineapple chunks, water with strawberry and kiwi slices, water with melon chunks, water with cucumber or cucumber and melon. Really anything you like. Cut or slice the fruit up at night put in a pitcher with your water for the next day and let it sit in the frig overnight. Ready when you get up. Stir or shake it up a Lil. Yummy.

I did this pre op...I called it spa water but wasnt sure if I could do it now because of the sugar in the fruit. I did citrus (lemon, lime, orange), blackberry sage, watermelon mint, and others I can't remember. I added some splenda into it to.I will ask my nut if this is allowed. Thank you!

Yes def ask your NUT first!!!! Lol. That's a must. I have a friend that has done it since a few days after surgery. I am still pre op. She never had any issues with it, but as you know all of our tummies react different to everything. It's all trial and error. As long as its ok with NUT it's a viable option. Hope the idea helps.

I found that mint tea (no black tea, just mint leaves) made into icd tea was a godsend and helped me drink enough. Plain Water doesn't go down well and everything is too sweet.

Why not use your favorite fruit to give your Water a taste without sugar.

I have the same problem. Even plain Water tastes a bit sweet to me. I cannot choke down the Protein drinks and I'm kinda worried about not getting in my protein. But I'm on soft foods now so, I try to make sure it's higher protein stuff. I can't do any artificial sweeteners. No Jello, Isopure clear, Powerade zero, etc. But I like the idea of putting fruit in the water - I will have to try that.

It took me 6 months to like Water again. Before surgery that's all I drank. All day everyday! I peed like every 30 minutes! Haha. I hope you find something you like! Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
