Was anyone else told by their surgeon to try and lose a certain amount of weight? I was told to try and lose 20 pounds (10% of my weight) by the end and I'm really worried that I won't be able to do it and if I do I might gain it back before the last appointment. But I've never been able to lose that much weight. I'm much better at maintaining it. =\

Yes, a lot of people on this forum was told to lose weight. It is so your liver will shrink and they can see your stomach better. No worries. The liquid diet before the procedure you will lose.

I'm just starting....still....*sigh*. I meet with my 6 month diet dietitian next week. I hope she won't tell me to lose a certain amount, but we'll see. In the meantime, my PCP put me on Metformin because my last test showed that I was almost into the diabetic range. That medicine was a bit rough for me, and I've lost 6 pounds in two weeks without trying. The first day, I had to go home sick from work because it made me nauseous. I'm still not up to the amount she wants me to take, but I can only do what my body will tolerate, so I'm starting out with only taking the prescribed amount on the weekends, and halving the pills during the week so I can work without getting sick. I wonder if anyone else has had this happen.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
