Gaffer,

I an scheduled for Feb 14th. What are the conditions of your Optifast pre-diet? Did they give you the "this much -this often" talk yet? I have not yet been given the standards for the liquid diet. I don't think they will give them to me until my visit in Jan 2007.

Good luck

Keep in touch

Sean

Have you recieved your pre-op package yet? All the details are in there. For me, my pre-op is 3 weeks Optifast with 1 serving of suggested vegitables daily, with some berries in the shakes should I wish, and then some liquids which I cant remember off the top of my head.

I think that I have to do the 3 weeks as I have a high BMI, around 47. It is kinda funny to see 3 of us that are scheduled for the 14th. It is also nice to see another guy here. All the ladies here are great, but it is noce to have a male perspective on this whole adventure as well.

Welcome Sean - I have not looked at my pre-op diet plan yet - don't want to scare myself too quickly! I will look at it two days before I go on it and then have only 2 sleepless nights.:heh: We will have long chats I'm sure about how the diet is going. Gaf - we start the diet the same day - so we can commiserate at will. Actually, it will not be too bad; in my lifetime I have done ridiculous diets including the grapefruit and eggs (only!) one. That was way before Atkins Diet in the mid 60's. Yeah, Yeah, I'm old - so what? Anyway, I did Liquid Protein when it first came out and tasted like an old steer had crawled in that can and then slowly rotted to death. Yech! Optifast sounds good - especially the chocolate stuff. I lived for a year on the Cambridge Diet in the mid - late 80's and lost a whopping pile of weight - funny thing is, it found me again. 2 weeks will be a walk in the park:nervous . Well gotta go to bed - this old bird is tired.

My wife & I will be flying to Miss. on the 12, as they scheduled me for an appt. with Dr.C at 12:00 on the 13.

Priscilla, I know what you mean about the diets. I am only 32, but remember being on some shake diet when I was about 12, and that really started it for me. WW, Fatkins, South Beach, Testoterone Advantage, Soup Clense diet. I stuck to all those crappy diets for way too long so 3 week should not be too tough (I say this now). I think I will tape the invoice for my surgery on the fridge so when I have a moment of weekness I will remeber what this is going to cost me and that I cant screw it up.

Good luck guys, I think there will be a flood of "I hate Optifast" in the coming weeks.

Hey, I think that's so great that 3 of you are getting done the same day!!!

And yes, in a room full of estrogen, a little testosrone(?) goes a long way!!!

And no, I'm not saying all my wonderful female buddies are bitchy, it's just fun to be able to harrass males too!!!!:)

I spoke with my doctor just yesterday about this new band. I had the Vanguard (VG) band put in the beginning of November, so I wanted to know about the new one. The difference with this band is just with the way the bladder is shaped/sized. What they have found with the VG band is that sometimes Fluid goes "missing" or can not be aspirated from the band. Apparantly with the new one, that is not as much of a problem. That's about all I know.

My understanding of the AP is this is innamed's latest and greatest contribution to the lapband community. I know J&J just brought out a new version of the swedish band too.

The nice thing about the latest and greatest band is they have taken all the flaws and complications and weight loss challenges into the design of the band. So you are getting what they have deisgned to be the best.

I wouldn't worry about having a new design of band, I know for me that would give me a little encouragement. It is kinda like buying a new car, do you want the one with all the features or the baseline model... I like all the bells and whistles, so knowing I have the latest technology and design would give me some peace of mind.

Yes, we will get the new advanced band - yippee! Apparently it is less apt to cause problems or lose saline. Keep in touch.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
