I'm 2 weeks post op today an have been on clear fluids so far. I can start creamed Soups (strained) milk, shakes, etc. So, I had 2 bites of a cream Soup (2 table spoons maybe) and 3 minutes later was in agony (sharp stomach spasms), got a wave of nausea (which I haven't had for over a week), then puked. Why did this happen??? I'm desperate for something other than broth and Jello, but not at that price!!! Thoughts?

I am about 3 weeks out and can not eat cream Soup. I think its the heavy cream in it. I got the same way except it came out the other end plus a horrid stomach ache. I lived on greek yogurt, the 80 calorie light and fit. My Dr. did not have a problem with the fruit in it so it worked for me.

try something else instead, like greek yogurt, Cottage cheese ( was considered a full liquid for me) or re-fried Beans. Give your tummy a few days then try the Soup again. It may be you just don't tolerate it. I ate cream Soups twice and i never want to eat another one again. Good luck!!

I started on full liquids while still in the hospital, but started out on Protein Shakes. I've also had yogurt, sugar free pudding and pureed chicken noodle Soup. Perhaps the cream soup is too rich or you're sensitive to the milk. Switch it up and see if that works.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
