2 days post op and I'm STARVING

Recommended Posts

I've been having the same issues. I was sleeved on the 22nd, and I constantly feel as if I am starving. I am on stage 2 (full liquids now), and while I get full fairly quickly, it doesn't seem to last very long. I've noticed that my main issue is during the middle part of the day. First thing in the morning and later in the evening it doesn't seem to bother me so much.

Did they give you Pepcid or any type of Antacid? I was having the same problem (feeling hungry, and not head hunger). I posted about it on here & someone told me that sometimes acid in the stomach mimics feeling hungry. I am only a week post op and due to the stomach being swollen and the nerve damage from surgery, there is no way I could really be having hunger pains. Sure enough, I had not been taking the Pepcid I was prescribed when I left the hospital. Started taking it yesterday and havent felt hungry since!

As town976 said, many times it is due to acid that you feel hungry...does your surgeon prescribe acid blockers? Mine has me take them every day for first three months....

WHAT??!! Something isn't right there...either he misspoke or you misunderstood. Leaks due to such a long incision line in your stomach are one of the more common (and serious) possible issues of sleeve surgery. Now, they do a leak test within 48 hours of surgery to make sure everything is sealed correctly before you start taking in fluids and foods, but you aren't out of the woods for leaks for many weeks post-op.

I woke up from surgery STARVING! How can a stomach that's just been cut apart have hunger pains?

I was sleeved May 22. I am supposed to be on full liquids still but I felt so hungry. I got a grilled chicken breast fro KFC and some potatoes and gravy. I cut up the meat, not that hard outer part, really fine. I ate an ounce of meat and two tablespoons of the potatoes. It just helped. It may have been mental but after 2 weeks on the preop diet and a week post op I just had to have some real food. I am back on full liquids now but just knowing I can have food makes me feel better. I can't say you should do this because it is against what I was told to do. But I did it and lived:)

You are brave!! I was sleeved on May 21st and I get worried when I can drink more than 4oz of Soup within an hour!!! I would have an anxiety attack if I had to eat chicken right now!! Glad you survived it!

Wow. Yes you are brave...my friend told me who also had it done whatever you do don't cheat..she said you could die from doing that! I read about some people on forum having leaks up to 6 months post ok and they had to have a feeding tube in for 8 months for stomach to heal...I'm 4 days post ok and I'm getting my Protein Shakes, cream Soup, broth, hello, sugar free pudding..I'm going crazy..I can go to puree June 12 and I can't wait....I'm also starving but I try to stay focused and not cheat..I don't want a leak. God bless everyone and stay strong! It gets easier..oh. I'm down 10 lbs....started 202.down 192:)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
