is it safe to sleep on my stomach

Recommended Posts

Out of the recliner and into the bed, have always been a side and stomach sleeper but sides hurt from gas pain and stomach does not. Is it safe to sleep this way?

But is it safe for your body weight to be on top of your incisions?

That I don't know, but I was so tired and knew I needed to be comfortable to sleep, and that I needed sleep to heal. I had my gallbladder out about 3 weeks ago and did the same thing...healed well both times.

Try wedging a pillow under your side while lying on your back, might change it up...

I did it after a week or so post op once you don't have pain when you go to lay on it you should be fine.

I am like a rotisserie chicken and slept on all sides post-op. No problems with the incisions, I say go for it if it makes you comfortable and rested!!

I was sleeved on the 23rd too. Last night I tried to sleep on my stomach and an hour later I woke to coughing up stomach acid..definitely wasn't a good feeling. I'll give it a few more days before I try again.

Guess I just had a NSV slept in my bed for close to 8 hours and no pain getting up out of bed...not bad for 4 days post op...now when can I start working out again?! Haha my dr says a month but hopefully maybe I can be cleared sooner.

I tried to sleep on my stomach again last night. I lasted for 2 hours. Epic fail...now I'm more sore than I've ever been. To top it off, my dog greeted me good morning by jumping and landing right on top of my middle incision. Eh.

My dr said I can start working out at 3-4 weeks, but everyone can start off by walking immediately.

I'm pretty sure I scared her away...I yelled and pushed her away all in one breath. What a nice way to start the day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
