I've heard this happens quite a lot. I know of 2 people claiming miraculous results from 'body by Vi', getting commission from sales, but actually having WLS. Celebrities too.

Hey....maybe we should all create a new weight loss supplement too!!!! Jusy sayin' if you can't beat 'em....

KIDDDING....

If for some reason you are hesitant to "stick your nose in" her business and say something, just imagine she is working for an investment firm and is taking people's money for a FRAUDULENT mutual fund. Any hesitations now? Because that is what she is doing.

You are correct' date=' I can't control anyone else's actions, but that said, I am upset by people who defraud others. I am upset by people who abuse others, rob others, hurt others. It's a basic human reaction.

I have talked to her and I will again. I am also going to let her know it's time to be honest or I will be honest for her. ;)[/quote']

Oh Lipstick I know you are not backward in coming forward! You are a Lady with principles. Expose her! Do you really want a friend like that? We have all tried those magic cures that don't work, give false hope and drain our bank accounts. Put your lipstick on, hold your head high and tell everyone she is a fraud!!

She did it about a year and a half ago and she looks fabulous. I am so happy she made this decision and that she has found so much more happiness in her body' date=' her relationships and her job (which is a bit more physical than most).

Very few people know about her procedure which I totally understand. I told my closest friends, my parents and my kids (that includes my husband). I feel no need to tell anyone else right now because I don't want people asking me questions about my journey on a daily basis. I know I will spill it eventually, but not until I am ready.

What's my problem? She has started selling some sort of Vitamin weight loss crap and she is 100% crediting her success to her new venture. She is showing her before and after pictures all over the place and has people convinced that if they buy her weight loss stuff, they will have her results. Meanwhile, she is eating 1-2 oz of real food and has lost over 150 pounds because of RNY. I know it's none of my business and I will NOT bust her out on FB as I am tempted to do, but I am so mad.

I did kindly confront her about it, and she claims that she only lost 20 pounds due to her RNY. She was over 300, she is about 145 now, a year and a few months later. She claims she hit a 6 month stall (bullsheet), started this stuff and the pounds melted away. It's a scam and she is taking people's money. ARGH!!![/quote']

Does she realize she could get taken to court?

Thanks for all the responses! I used the term "friend" when I should have used acquaintance. We live 1000 miles away from each other and are work colleagues and I see her her maybe once a year. We are FB friends and that is where I have seen these great stories of her successes. I did message her about it and she swears she only lost about 20 pounds due to her WLS, got stuck, started taking the pills and BOOM, lost 100+ pounds.

It's all good, though. Every week or so I post something on her wall or on her status asking her how her RNY is going and how "proud" I am of her success regarding her decision to have surgery, brave, strong, great choice, yada, yada, yada, and leave it at that. Oddly enough, she's toned down the enthusiasm for her magic Beans. I also messaged a few of the takers of her pills and told them to be sure to ask her how about her pills in conjunction with her surgery.

;)

If she is found out by the public, she could have some real issues if she is reported to the Attorney General. That is a clear cut case of fraud.

It must be rough to know this and her being your friend. I personally do not want friends like that. People who can easily defraud others of their hard earned money, will not stop there. She is immoral and unethical.

This is horrible, I to have a friend who has lost tons of weight and sent me a post on fb on how they have lost 100s of pounds on the coffee bean...Really. When I finally decided to have wls I told them that I chose to do something else. Most of the weight loss commercials are scams and it's wrong to take ppl money this way. People need to just tell the truth, it may help thousands of ppl that just didn't know about wls.

I would definitely reconsider which level I put our relationship on. I also have a similar story where I have ended an acquaintance ship (lol) due to her having RNY and also making it appear that she lost nearly 250 pounds due to exercise and diet alone. her attitude also changed for the worst after surgery (she is now very ugly acting--holier and prettier than thou).

it happens.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
