Hi,I'm 65. Had the sleeve done 12/19 this yr. I had stomach problems all the way through. I discovered my stomach flora is too acidic since my surgery and I'm doing everything I can for it at present. I'm on a probiotic and I just read the book, "60 Seconds to Slim". It tells you all the things you need to eat to reduce acid, lose weight and the proper nutrition necessary for weight loss. These days I'm feeling better and losing weight is now easy. I've lost 70 lbs. so far, only have to lose another 150 lbs. As you see, this is a life altering process. The good side is that I have been writing to an old flame of 50 years ago and he wants to go out with me, and he's seen my picture too. How do you like that?

I am 60 and had the sleeve done Apr 15 2013. I have had no problems and only spent 36 hrs in the hospital. I went off meds when I got home so I could drive. I have lost 31 lbs since I started my pre op diet 7 weeks ago. I haven't lost as fast as some people but I have gone from 274 to 243 and I am feeling so positive that this will work.

Wow, very inspirational! I'm loving thIs! So happy to hear from everyone and to know all are doing so great!

I'm just starting my process now, but my son is already scheduled for his very soon. Can't wait till I have a date set for myself. My insurance does cover the procedure; although, I will be responsible for a co-pay. Also, I don't think I'll have to do much more than just a psych visit, everything else has been done and my doctor can forward that documentation and submit for pre-authorization soon.

You all have had great success, I hope I have the same. Looking forward to hearing from more 50+ VSG's. Thank you for the site link where all are hanging out! I'll be checking it out soon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
