I start on the exciting stage of scrambled egg and cheese, yogurt, etc. my question- how long should I take to eat the egg? Do I need to take 30-40 min to eat it, or cuz it's egg, I just eat as usual. And the cheese with the egg... melts... Isn't it hard to break it down while eating. Sorry if I sound ignorant but I want to finally eat...and not get sick. Thank you ????

take your time eating. when i first started on full solids, my first meal was a scrambled egg with cheese. I could only eat half the egg, and it was a very strange feeling to eat the solid food. My stomach made such noises!!! Eat it slowly, chew it well and wait a bit between bites. if you try to eat it "normal" you will probably get sick. The Cheese for most people isn't a problem at all. Good luck!

I agree with Magpie, eat the eggs slowly. Like 1/2 teaspoon per bite, and wait a minute between bites to see how your stomach reacts. My stomach did not like eggs at all the 1st time I tried them post-op, no matter how much I chewed them.

This is great advise... Thank you. Another question... It says we can eat any cheese. ANY? Like string cheese... And if we eat sliced cheese, I'm assuming same rule... Eat slowly and wait between bites??? I'm soooo nervous.

I'd avoid really hard cheeses for a bit, but pretty much any common cheese is fine. Yes, eat slow & measure your portions.

I make a scrambled egg with a scoop of cottage cheese instead of a splash of milk, it's very good.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
