Social event 1 month after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I had a wedding to go to 1 month after surgery and I don't know if I will be at the solid food stage. I am going to Dr Ortiz for surgery, and it seems I should be at the solid food stage by then, but if I'm not, any ideas what to do? I will feel sort of weird not having food, but I don't think I can bring my own, so what do I do? Has anyone else run into this? :help:

see if they have soups...always a good option at weddings. other than that you should be on mushies at least so try to find the mushiest dish available and wash it down with a bit of water...just for appearances sake...I do realise that you shouldn't be drinking Water during mealtimes but on an occasion like this surely it wouldn't hurt.

 becky

i had this experience 11 days after my surgery. i let the host know that i could only have liquids and they organised Soup for me. I didn't feel uncomfortable as they were glad i could attend their special occassion.

Thanks for your posts! I checked with the bride-they are doing a buffet and will have mashed potatoes, so I think at 4 weeks I should be at the mushy stage, so hopefully that will work. Otherwise I will just bring a Protein Shake or something; I would just rather not have the disucssion with the guests at my table why I'm not eating. Not that I mind talking about the band, but I'd rather not have the discussion at someone's wedding!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
