So I met with the surgeon and found out I have to do a 3 week liquid diet for my preop, 4-5 Protein Shakes a day. I don't know how I'm gonna do it! Does anyone:

1. Have survival tips to pass on.

2. Have recommendations on what kind of drinks to get. I heard good things about premiere Protein from costco. Price is a factor, Bariatric Advantage seemed a little too expensive for me.

3. The surgeon told me his ideal is to get me down by 20 pounds but when I talked to the physicians assistant she said they wouldn't cancel my surgery if I didn't lose the full 20, only if I gained.

My pre op diet was more like Kitkats. Also the premier protien from costco is cheap and you can get it in powder and ready to drink. Personally, it was too sweet for me and I could not drink it down. I would suggest buying samples before you commit to a huge package. Get a variety of shakes so you don't get tired of the flavors.

OK - I need to read more carefully. At first I thought you were saying you ate Kit Kats for your pre-op diet. I was sooooo jealous.

I like that idea better. I think gonna have to sneak in solids here and there like an apple or lean deli turkey or string cheese.

vitalady.com has sample sized Protein packets so you can try different brands. I found it a big help. Some are great and some are nasty.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
