5 weeks post op down 30lbs when can I have a salad

Recommended Posts

I've been craving a salad for the longest time. Any advice on when I can reintroduce this in my diet? I'm also craving, of all things a grilled hot dog. Probably because the smell of all the grills in the neighborhood are killing me!!!!!

I'm only two weeks out, but a salad sure sounds amazing! Congrats on the weight loss too!

My surgeon allowed us to try iceberg lettuce at 6 weeks out and other veggies at 8 months out. Take it slowly and introduce cooked veggies first and then the raw veggies one by one. Also, go by your surgeon's timetable since that's always best. The more fibrous veggies like cruciferous cauliflower, broccoli etc, can be harder at first. Also, raw carrots. Don't eat celery until your surgeon okays. The strings can get caught in your staple line.

By all means follow your dr and nuts instructions.. Im allowed salad but you know what? my stomach doesnt tolerate it very well.. so no salad for me.. a lil bit of shredded but thats all I can take.. Im just now allowed to have citrus.. and boy do those manderin oranges taste good.. they are just the right size and fill me quite nicely. I know it here it can be confusing because every doc and nut and nurse is different.. so your best bet is to follow yours.. I have mine and im post op since dec 20th and im down 93lbs.. so Im happy with that..and following my docs instructions to the tee... best of luck to you on your new journey.. and what a journey it has been for sure.. :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
