48 hours out - where was your pain?

Recommended Posts

I am 2 days out from surgery and am feeling pretty good. I am still very swollen and have pain around the incisions (as expected). You can hear my insides rumbling across the room. Is that normal? It is pretty painful when it is happening. Hunger pains? Gas pains? I'm also having lots of mid back pain. It improves if I lay on my side, but that is very painful yet. Not sure if it is deferred pain from the surgery or just laying around so much in an uncomfortable position. Anyway, where did you experience pain and what was it like?

The rumblings are your intestines "waking up" after surgery and working to move that gas pain through your system. Very likely the cause of the pain you are experiencing...I had virtually no pain from the surgery, but the gas pain could stop me short for the first couple of days...for me, once I started passing gas (about 2 days post-op) it helped and was gone when I had first BM (4 days post-op)

My pain was in the base of my rib cage, where the hernia was repaired. It felt like that "chest burster" from Alien was trying to get out. :-P Had lots of noise in my stomach and gas pains in my shoulder.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
