Mine was very short, about 15 min. But I have heard others saying they had to take tests...so guess it just depends on your evaluator.

Mine was a good hour if not 90 mins. They first questioned me, then had me fill out a questionnaire which was about 50 questions. Then they looked over the questionnaire while I just waited, waited, waited....uhhh...did I mention that I waited? Anyway, then they came back & said I was cleared for surgery but she gave me some "suggestions."

My initial eval was two hours. The first hour was a computer assessment second hour was with the doctor.

Don't sweat the psych eval - they have a vested interest in you "passing". Just be yourself, be honest and remember, they aren't expecting a person who is in complete control of everything in their lives (including food) to walk-in. The more honest and upfront you are about your struggles, the more it will reflect insight and self-awareness which are all crucial to a successful WLS journey.

I'm from WV and my psych evaluation was 2 1/2 hours long. She asked me a bunch of questions and then I had to take a 360 truth or false test. Good luck and Be honest!! :)

My psych evaluation was pleasant and just basically Talked about my experience With diet and weight loss. It was only 45 minutes or so. And you only have to see him once. It was fine they just want to make sure that you're not cuckcoo for Coco puffs.. Lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
