Restriction ASAP

Recommended Posts

Would someone please tell me if they felt restricted from the moment they had the surgery. My surgery is a week from tomorrow and I am starting to get nervous. My friend had it in Feb of this year and it took her awhile before she did not feel hungry all the time. It took her 3-4 fills..is this the norm?

I am now 4 weeks post op and I was only "not" hungry for the first week after surgery. Now I feel like I'm hungry all the time. I feel very little restriction, but I do know when it's time to stop eating because you get that uncomfortable feeling. My first fill is 12/29 and people have said that I might not feel that much restriction after the first fill. So, don't worry, you'll be fine. Good Luck!

Most everyone has pretty good restriction right after surgery and usually lasts about 4 weeks. Then, for me and most it took 3 fills for me to get really good restriction. My surgeon let me get first fill at 4 weeks and then I could get more every 2 weeks. So far so good. I think I had lost 50 pounds in a little under 4 months and now I've lost 60 in 5 months. Once you get good restriction it's much easier. I have also seen people on here who have good restriction and never need a fill. It's just according. It took 3 for me.

I had good restriction until the 4 week mark at which point I went in for my first fill. Some people feel restriction right away and it sticks to them. Others don't. You'll have to wait and see what happens. Good luck.

Several fills is the norm but I had restriction immediately after surgery. Hell, I PBed 3 days post-op. And for me, my appetite never came back... as in, still don't have one, and haven't had since a few days pre-op.

According to Inamed, only about 1% will feel restriction after surgery. I did not have any restriction. I went for my 1st fill 5 weeks after surgery. I had good restriction for 5 days and now it is completely gone. I go for my 2nd fill this friday. Those who do not feel hungry and have some restriction after surgery probably have a smaller band. My understanding is they are using the larger bands more now to help prevent erosion, therefore there are more people complaining about no restriction. If I dont feel restriction after my 2nd fill, I will be going back every two weeks until it happens. Its been 2 months since surgery and I have to fight to keep the 10 lbs off. Very depressing but am looking forward to being able to get a fill every 2 weeks now if needed. Come Friday my new journey will begin AGAIN.

Dont expect too much in the first couple of fills sometimes you do feel restricted sometimes not...for me, I have had 4 fills and still don't feel overly restricted...I am going for another one next week so hopefully that will do the trick for me...Best wishes

Becky

I too have spent my time on the restriction roller coaster. I had great restriction right after surgery, but I also had a hiatel hernia fixed at the same time, so I had more swelling in my abdomin than some do. I could hardly sip the liquid pain meds, but after about 2-3 weeks, I could eat good Protein heavy foods, and couldn't wait for my first fill. I got 1.5cc in a 4cc band, went to Maine, had all SORTS of foods, but still managed to lose a couple of pounds. Next fill I really felt for a few weeks, then hardly felt a thing til next fill. Third one kicked my butt for about 3-4 weeks, then slacked off. I reslly feel that that is perfectly normal. Now I am up to 2.8cc , and still losing weight. I think as you shrink, so does the fatty layer around your stomach, so the band loosens up a bit, therefore requiring more fill. Just my theory, of course. Hope this helps.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
