It has been a long time since I was on the forum. I was within 2 weeks of having my sleeve done in 2010 but had to have it cancelled because of some admin problems here in Europe. Needless to say I was pretty upset for a long time.

I restarted this journey 2 months ago and I just got my surgery date. 22July!!! I have started the pre-op diet-need to lose 10 lbs- and started walking at least 20 minutes a day. My surgeon had a good analogy for getting ready for this change in life. He compared it to training for a sporting competition, you can't just jump into the marathon and expect to get very far. You have to get your mind into the 'training' and making the changes that you need to accomplish the goal of completing the race. So here I go getting my mind and body ready for the changes.

Good luck!! Think that is a really good analogy. I am a week into my preop and can feel my attitude changing already!

Welcome back, and congratulations............and thank you for sharing that analogy, I like it! I figured whatever exercise I could do now would only help me when I have the surgery.

Congrats!! I'm glad you got back on track for your sleeve, no matter how long it takes. There were many times in the beginning when I felt like giving up, so I know how devastating it can be when things don't go as you expect.

That analogy is great! Definitely, the more you can do to practice post-op life, the better you will adjust to it! Many people have the mentality that you need to enjoy something "for the last time" or have a "food funeral" but the fact is, if you're having surgery - you want to change your life! And that starts TODAY. The more you lose pre-op, the less you have to lose post-op - why handicap yourself by doing destructive things one last time simply because you CAN? I'm glad you're choosing to start now! Besides, the day will come when you can eat what you'd like, just lots less of it, and in moderation, so there's no point in mourning what you can have again!

Got a little off track there -

What I really wanted to say was CONGRATS! :) July will be here before you know it. Good luck to you!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
