Sashimi--what stage?

Recommended Posts

I'm craving Sashimi. (Since I can't have Sushi). I'm curious to know if it was hard to digest for the sleeve. I'm transitioning to soft foods after the puréed stage. I am assuming that you guys waited until you were released to a regular diet before trying. Also curious to know how many pieces you were able to eat. Thanks! :)

Yeah I waited until I was released to all foods,

In the beginning I only could eat 1 order (2 pieces) of the sake (salmon) sashimi..

But now at 6 months I can eat almost 2 orders.

Sashimi is basically raw salmon right? You may be able to eat this during purée stage. I started eating canned wild salmon from Trader Joes on my 3rd week (purée). In fact, if I recall correctly, I mostly ate canned salmon during the purée stage with Protein Shakes.< /p>

Yes sashimi is just the raw fish.. I waited until I was released to all foods because the texture is different from cooked. Its not flaky its more dense.

But the yummiest thing ever! I might add :D

Yes, rice is going to be high in carbs. Also, from what I understand, most sleevers don't do well with rice. I believe it swells in your stomach. :(

Sashimi was my first meal out postoperative. I waited until I was cleared for all solids. Went down just fine and was delish. Have had it since as well; all good.

I have not tried more than a few incidental pieces of rice yet. Somewhat craving a real spicy salmon roll but have not worked up the courage to try something with rice yet.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
